G'day all,
I've just bought my first 105, a 1999 turbo 1hz auto model with 398,000kms.
I have always loved the idea of owning a 1hz vehicle and I generally prefer 4x4 vehicles to be automatic, so when this came up I knew i had to look. I've test driven a naturally aspirated 1HZ auto 105 before and it was so slow going up hills that I was worried the cylinders lacked compression, though it may just be par for the course with the NA 1HZ.
This model has a few tasteful upgrades including:
- Safari snorkel
- Steel bull bar
- Tow bar
- DTS Turbo 9 PSI
- 2¾" exhaust.
- 16" Mag wheels
- 2 Bar Roofrack System
- Commando Superduty 4x4 Shocks
- King Springs (2" Suspension lift ?)
AND it can handle a hill! It wasnt quite as zippy as the 2uz that i tested a few months back but it definitely felt a lot better than i expected. I am hoping that the turbo is low enough to not destroy the engine or the transmission. I have been told that the following work has been done in the past few years:
- Turbo replaced
- Valve set on engine
- Resealing of intake manifold and exhaust manifold
- Front and rear 40mm gas shocks.
it still needs a few things- I want 33s (or 285s,305s or similar), apparently power steering is leaking and the steering damper needs to be replaced. Brakes may need some attention.
hoping to get any and all advice available, and look forward to being a contributing member of this great community!
