Hey folks,

I recently started this MeetUp group. Yes, there are already plenty of great groups out there. Hint CSC.... but I wanted to put my take on things in the overlanding world.

Parking lot meetups will have varying locations and dates to hopefully give all folks the ability to attend. Most trips will be single overnight but we will plan some other long trips with limited open spots. First trip is tomorrow. Punkin Center to Young (sound familiar?) camping near Haigler Creek.

I really want the group to help those that are new to overlanding and have a great mix of different types of vehicles and experience levels. Subarus, Toyotas, Jeeps, whatever. Lots of people have helped me get to where I am today and I want to give back and help others. We all know how much fun these trips and experiences can be.

For our first parking lot meetup I am asking for volunteers who are willing to share their expertise with others. We are going to put signs on the vehicles saying "Ask me about Ham, GAIA GPS and GPS Navigation, etc) I'm thinking Saddletramp should sign up and offer "How to sh&t in the woods!" These will just be conversation starters. Plenty of folks with way more experience than me who I hope will contribute.

So if you want to take more time away from your family and put more miles on your vehicle head on over and check things out.

:bang: Can't go have to replace a blown radiator. This sounds like an amazing run with all the different vehicles and skill sets.

Yep and it will be closer to my house! We will not be in the same location all the time but hopefully can do something around here when it opens.

This group is meeting up at the parking lot at the Tempe REI from 2-5 today. Casual deal. Show up and say hi. Show what your rig off and answer questions. Just a relaxing afternoon. We will hopefully park on the northwest corner of the lot out of the way of most folks along Southern Ave. Dave from Turtleback may be there with a trailer as well. Mine's still in the build process. Otherwise, I would gladly show it off.

Chris, thanks for putting this together. Had a great time!!! It was nice meeting other folks with different rides that had the same overlanding interest. It was a pleasure meeting and hanging out with Dave owner of Turtleback Trailers....great guy. Look forward to more gatherings like this....happy hour also was good.
 
Rudster, thanks for coming out! Great to catch up. I will post up when the next event will be. December we likely won't do anything because there is just too much going on. When the conditions are right daytime parking lot events are great. Especially if a few peeps have awnings for some shade. I will always drag out my trailer for events when it works.

I also plan on doing some talks/lessons on a few things like Gaia and GPS Navigation, Ham Basics, emergency communications (Spot/InReach Sat Phone), Basic recovery gear, and whatever else can bring value. I don't know is CSC has ever done this but it would be easy to share all of the information. The challenge will be to display items from an ipad onto a screen but I know there are solutions out there. I just have never used any of them.

I also want to work with REI, 4Wheel Parts, Sierra Expeditions, and few other places for future meetups. BUT just like CSC it can't be a solo effort. I love doing this stuff and giving back but will need so help. So if anyone in the group thinks they have a little bit of available time for any future event let me know.

Good times. It was small 10-15 people but I think a lot of great information was shared.

FYI another parking lot meetup this Saturday for those that are not taking the Ham test! At the new REI in Chandler. Wish I could do a run but I have a lot of stuff going on and this is a solo project at the moment.

At least the hottest day of the year is supposed to be Sunday and not Saturday! Poop!!
