New guy introduction to the locals

My name is Corey and I am in Corrales. I have been a long time Jeep guy and have owned 5 in the past. My last Jeep was very well put together but sadly it was too small (It was a 2012 rubicon unlimited). After the jeep sold I planed to just go with out a toy for a while being as the jeep was not a DD and was a third vehicle. Well that did not last long, two weeks later I was on the hunt for a 100 series LC. I had made friends with Ali from your club and gone on a few trips together with him in his 80 series and me in my jeep. When the search was on for a new vehicle, Ali was my go to guy and Toyota was my choice (with some influence from Ali). I new I wanted the factory rear locker so I was looking for a 98-99. Since 100s with low miles for sale are scarce and very pricey I waned one with around 150k miles and with a good maintenance records. I started looking at Craigslist and eBay every night before bed. One morning while having coffee I decided to expand my Craigslist search and a beauty popped up in CO. It was well outfitted and had the rear locker plus an ARB in the front. It did have 200k which was more than I wanted but the other add ons plus good maintenance records I decided to go for it.
I picked up the truck and it had tires that I could not stand, directional and they road like crap. The first thing I did was get new tires.

Aside from a few minor things I want to change and tweak I do have two major things I am going to have to tackle.
First is the tires that were on it where 315/75R16 so when I decided on the Goodyear Duratrac's that's the size I went with. Well... My spare was a 285 and I did not know so now I have the wrong size spare and the current size tire won't fit in the spares location. My rear bumper is a TJM and has a spot to put a swing out but sadly no swing out and they don't make one anymore so my options now I guess are new rear bumper and tire carrier, have a tire carrier made for it, or see if a low air pressure 315 can be squeezed into the factory location since I have air onboard.
The second issue is gears...
The 100 has the factory 4:30 gears and as it runs ok I have been informed this big of a tire and factory gears messes up the way the truck "thinks" so I want to do gears and get that right. I heard UJoints in Albuquerque was a good place? Thoughts looking at 4:88's

4.88 would be the minimum I would go. Its not worth the cost of regearing if you don't net 15% change and 4.88 from 4.30 would be 13% so that's close enough

I talked with "just differentials" for a bit today and they said most of their employees with 100s and 35 run the 4:88. I guess once you go to 5:29 you run into other issues. They quoted me 1500$ for just parts ouch. Going to call Slee tomorrow.

I work one of those jobs where I don't get weekends off however, I am generally able to take time off. I went camping with some friends from work as well as Ali last weekend.

Nice, I noticed your rig in the area, definitely an eye catcher. I have a 100, and had Ujoints install my ARB 2 years ago, no problems, and they were pretty quick about it. I am still running stock gears, but I only run 33"s. I haven't heard of anyone getting a 35" to fit in the stock location, but the 33 definitely works. You may consider just getting a swingout built for your current bumper. Cheaper than selling it and buying a new one (unless you come upon a used one). I believe most of the spindles are standard sizes.

Also, I like the roof rack. That is the next on my list to purchase.

Glad to hear UJoints has a good reputation. They were very responsible when he quoted me his install price. I have the 2.5 lift and wheel spacers so that's how they got the 35s to fit not tons of room in the wheel well but enough were I don't rub or have issues that I have seen yet. The roof rack is great and can see using quite a bit. I would like to get some water jerry cans up there, a shovel and maybe the stealth box Gobi makes. Also an awning on the drivers side would be nice.

Patting myself on the back currently....damn, I'm GOOD!!! Your Hundy is setup very nicely so it's basically a turnkey rig. You did well my brotha. Bring it to the house so that we can clean up some PO's customization. Some of them makes me go WTF!!!!

That's really great that you got a truck that already had lots of the goodies that people spend a crapload on. Regarding the rear swingout, I think you could probably get help from some of the club members to build one right onto the bumper you have, rather than buying a new bumper. Too bad about you already being victimized by Ali. You'll never be able to escape that, even if you move to Georgia.
