So I took my new truck to get the knuckles done (if it takes more than 5 parts, I will loose three, plus the garage is full of crap right now). The parts took a while to come in, but it was supposed to be done today. I just got a call, they left it on the rack over night, and it peed on their floor. Good news, the next item on my list, finding the gas smell, is solved. Bad news, hole in tank under one of the straps :( So I now get to pay extended range tank prices for a non-extended range tank. Yay! I guess no 700R4 or OME for until the money tree sprouts again in spring. Pointless post, other than I'm kind of bummed.

I scored a tank from a texas member here in almost new condition for less than 100 $ shipped. Post in the WTB section of the classifieds...

Thanks sdbrassfield. I all ready approved the mechanic ordering one. Plus the vehicle is pretty far from here, it would be a lot to tow home. I've had it three weeks, towed home once already, and almost had to tow another :( I don't think my wife would like that yet again. Plus I agreed it's not allowed to site non-running for over a week. More than that and it goes to a mechanic. To be fair, my wife did buy it for me with her money, so I can't complain too much.

snobored,
Do you know if your rig has had the fuel tank replaced under recall? There's lots of info on here if you search "fuel tank recall". Call your local Toyota dealer with your vin# and they can tell you if it's been done. If not.... free new tank... installed by dealer.
Good luck!
Butt

Thanks Butt Ugly. Yeah, I called on that when I got the rig, hoping that if it hadn't been done then as part of that work they would find the cause of my gas smell. It was done when the recall first came out (damn responsible owners!).
