Generally I put this kinda stuff in Chat, but it's local, and year-end coming up, and there's a need. [STRIKE]May the big hand-o-Shawn smack me if I'm outta line[/STRIKE].

edit: Mods- since this has little HDC/ cruiser content, move as appropriate. I own, and choose to keep, a 60 b/c of my dogs, which is why I know ya'll...

Some of you know I'm into doberman pinschers. Fewer of you know I assist w/rescue. This is the fourth dog I've hosted in the past year-plus, and he's a luv-bug.

Sharing w/you b/c the higher-ups recently sent an email, saying that there were more dogs than fosters, and asking for help. Rowan is my part, right now. Adopt a Doberman Pinscher: Rowan: Petfinder. Had more pix to post but I'm not that computer savy n got the wrong size SD card sideways in the slot... :bang:

Rowan ('rowdy') looks and acts like an 18mo old dog, but the vet thinks he could be as old as 9-10, based on dentition and the type of gum cancer. He is currently bones and soul, horking down food and hungry for lovings. He has very few manners, but we'll work on that as his bones fill out. He 'got' the dog door right away, and rain hasn't deterred him from his 'mission'. I've seen him be playful w/adult dogs, though when he meet mine today he was more interested in checking out the turf (and knuckle bones) than playing. Results on his biopsy are due Monday, and we're hoping for good results.

I know the economy sux, but I just wanted to put it out there. If you are fortunate enuf, as am I, to be considering year-end tax write-offs (or any other sponsorship/involvement), please think about the dogs. Any dogs, not just dobers. Heck, any animals, not just dogs. If I had more bux, they'd be going here: Walkin' N Circles Ranch, Inc., Edgewood, New Mexico

Thanks for thinking about it....

Carol, Nice to see you looking out for the critters! If I didn't have three (Levi & Wile E both adopted and Gimley came aroud cuz my brother had him chained to a tree) I would take Rowan. I think I know of a friend looking for a dog. I will see how that works. Keep me posted with his health.

Rudy

Rudy: thanks for the kind words. (and what the heck are you doing up so early?)

Rowan is not phazed by snow either (unlike the last male foster, Coco, who became such good company for Bella that he never moved out)

Will post up more when we know.

(and what the heck are you doing up so early?)

Early or late? What the hell is a kidless bachelor supposed to do on a Saturday night?

Wrenching on your junk until you have run out of soda/beer/food (whichever comes first). Surely I can't be the only one who knows this.

Thanks for making me jealous.

I only get to wrench on my junk when it's absolutely necessary to keep it running. Then I get in trouble for "spending the whole day with that stupid car/truck/lawnmower instead of your family". Granted, I'd rather spend the day with the family than work on some piece of ...... but I'm too cheap to pay someone else to do it and the few experiences I've had, they do a worse job on it than I would have.

Hijack over - back to the serious business of fostering and adopting neglected animals who so desparately need a loving, safe home.

Not my wife, but I can say it has been nice not having a phone call saying I am making too much noise in my gararge or I left my truck running too long and she can't breath in the morning. See Marc, I am guessing Danise is not even be close to my neigbors wife. Just another reason...

Or you could do like Rudy, and foster the neighbor...

So what would you do? I have a handicapped neighbor with a psycho wife who lied and had him thrown in jail. He has been there for me in help and advice more than any one of my five brothers (probably even collective). My dad passed away when I was 19, and he has been there to show me how work on trucks where my dad left off. It was not something that I wanted to be in the middle of, but if I didn't do this, I don't think I could respect myself.

Rudy, I wasn't saying you did a bad thing, just pointing out that some of us help others in different ways. I'll be providing transportation for my (RIP) dober Will's first mom as she goes through a series of electro-shock treatments in an effort to reduce the symptoms of her mental illness. Were she not part of my 'dog-family', I woulda never met her...

Back to Rowan: pix from his first day w/us. This is after a week of being loved & fed-up; I can't bear to think what he must've looked like in the shelter.

Rowan's cancer is epilous (sp), and will grow back slowly; he is officially up for adoption. Great news, and much work remains, but he's gettn it, as his starvation diminishes...

If not him, somebody. I still encourage you to give.... whatever, whenever, however you can. It does come back trifold, if not more....

Got permission to take him to my vet for ckup, some things I'd noticed; on my dime, rescue low on funds. Vet noted eye problems worth referring to a specialist, and

WAIVED her fees, even for the toenail trim, for that money to go towards the specialist exam. Talk about giving forward...

a little more north than east, on N Zamorra. pm & or call & I'll get you the info

way far later update:

He's still here. Made nice w/my dogs for a while, then started being aggro about "his" stuff.

still trying to get the rescue group to move him to a better home, as my dogs are hiding from him and snapping at each other.

he learns, but he'll never be 'not sharp'

an alternative healing friend offered to 'read' him, provided that if he said he want to leave/die, I'd let that happen. heavy stuff.
