:cheers:Hello everyone,

I just purchased a '75 fj40. My first Cruiser! I am located in Pleasanton, Texas and I'm looking forward to meeting other cruisers in the San Antonio and surrounding areas.

By the way, anyone know where I can find a decent hard top with ambulance doors?

Welcome Mike! If you haven't already, check out Lone Star Land Cruisers. The San Antonio chapter has slowed down some, but some of the guys there are trying to get it active again. PM BrettinSanAntonio on here.

For the hardtop, you might keep an eye on the for sale boards here and maybe post up a wanted ad.

Let's see pics of the new rig!

Gonna be building up my 75 with a new axle coming up. Long drive to Dallas though. I have done it though. Used to hunt in Eagle Pass and Pearsall. The 40 made it every time.

I'm in San Antonio. Several guys here with 40's. You can try Wimbrely 4WD just north of New Braunfels but it's gonna be pricey. Keep an eye on Ebay.

Welcome

A little help?

I'm trying to get some pics of my new ride downloaded, but they seem to be too big.

In the meantime, reading some of the other posts has me a little worried about what I have. The only VIN plate I could find is on the door jam of the driver's side door. The VIN is FJ40205655. It shows a manufacture date of July 1975. The only number I found stamped on the engine block is P 247172.

Can anyone decode these numbers for me and tell me what I have. Is the VIN posted anywhere else? The shift diagram on the glove box indicates a 4 speed transmission. I bought the cruiser without a top, so is there any way to tell if it came as a hard top or a soft top? There are no rear doors or hatch either.

I appreciate your help. I look forward to meeting those of you in Texas.

Well, the VIN is really just a serial number so it really doesn't tell you anything. Since it's a 75, assuming nothing's been changed over the years, you have a 2F, 4spd, and 4.11's.
Look at the ID plate in the engine compartment, which on yours I believe is on the fender apron on the passenger side. Look at the model designation and it'll tell us how it was ordered. Most likely it was a hard top model with ambulance doors. So it'll probably say something like FJ40LV-KCJA.

I think there is a section in the FAQ's that gives alot of info about year models, motors etc.... They are located on the bottom right of the tech section....

Finally figured out how to post a picture. Let me know what you think of my new ride. I welcome any comments or suggestions.

Not a bad looking ride:O) You're going to want to get rid of the aluminum plate, it breeds rust like you can't believe! I'll assume it was put on to cover rust, it will actually quadruple it over the years.

Thanks for the info guys. I can't find a vin plate in the engine compartment anywhere. How can you tell the difference between an F and a 2F engine? After reading a bunch of these threads, I'm beginning to think my engine has been replaced. Mine has a small round air cleaner off to the right of the valve cover. Alot of the others I've seen have a large oval air cleaner on top of the valve cover.

Where on the frame can I find a vin?

Anyone know how to trouble shoot the horn? Mine won't work, and therefore won't pass inspection! HELP!

There should be a number stamped into the outside of the passenger side frame rail behind the bumper and ahead of the front crossmember. It should be the same as the serial number on the identification plate on the driver's front door post. At least it was on my '76 and is on my '79. Later years had a VIN instead of a serial number - I can't quite tell on my '83 but it looks like part of the VIN is stamped there on the frame.

Thanks, I'll check and let you know if I find anything.
