Tyler-

I picked up some marker lights (sealed LEDs) yesterday and I and planning on doing something similar. I am thinking about putting mine on the outer edge of the mirror though. Did you look at this for possible placement?

I think mine are small enough that they wouldn't interfere with the mirror movement. I know the LEDs will me a more direct beam (the lens has a small diffuser over each "bulb") so I can't decide which would show better/attract more attention.

Pointing down I could see getting some reflection off the side of the truck (by looking at your pics) but my dark green wouldn't reflect as much as your lighter color.

And...now that this is a couple months old...do you still like them? Any problems...things you would do different?
Thanks!
David

To stop reflection can the signals be mounted on the front of the mirror housing or would this interfere with the internal workings of the mirror? By the way those look really good.

I am still quite happy I did this mod! :)

One thing to think about with outer placement is the carwash scenario. You better remember to pull in your mirrors.

What I honestly suggest for you guys to explore different placements is to take a mirror off the truck. Take it into the house and rip it down .. observe the range of motion of the mirror in the housing and realize what limitations this places on mounting lights. Lights usually have a base that will extend into the housing too far, and this negates some placements.

Some of my pics demonstrate how tight the install can be. As seen, I had to grind down the maximum allowed amount on the light fixture base, as well as part of the motor mount. PLUS I must be conscious of the limitations and NOT over rotate my mirrors where I observed they could no longer go. Doing so would likely damage the mirror, mount, or snap my light fixtures base!

It was a tight install by many accounts. I feel lucky it went off as well as it did..

Another reality check was the fact that the darn housing is in no way 'square'. I spent many minutes setting my lights reflector base against the housing .. top, side, bottom .. combine that with the darn motor base inside the housing and you start to feel your options slide down to next to nothing!
