what's the purpose of the tabs on the 4th and 5th crossbar?

i bet they are for mounting bike trays. I was thinking I did not need a rack ... but this looks pretty good and to customize on top of that. I only need to make more money... :crybaby:

Mike continues to turn out some awesome stuff. When I have the bucks, I'm relatively certain that I will be ordering all of my stuff from him (especially since he's relatively local to me in CO :D).

I too would like something just a tad wider, but the fact that it mounts to the factory roof rack locations is a really neat feature. I'd also be interested in pricing when it's available.

Great work guys.

any pic of that rigid lightbar on . ?

I should have some pics with it on in a week or so... Someone left the wiring harness in Colorado ;)

What do you do in case of Zombies?

.: Welcome to inCaseOfZombies.com is going stronger than ever. It's amazing how many people want to be "prepared"

Or send your kids with total strangers.

We weren't really THAT strange... We all drove Toyotas :)

How about some outside diameter dimensions? From the pics it looks smaller then most full sized racks, definitely more narrow. I'm guessing 45" wide compared to say the Front Runner at 53" wide. Let me guess, you guys picked that width to closely match the LED bar?

Of course the beauty of custom is you can have him make it whatever width you would like.

The rack on my truck is ~45" wide x 85" long. I wanted it to flow with the lines of the truck and still fit the largest light I could. You are correct though, If you want a big overhanging sail on your truck that you could mount something useful like a stripper pole or RTT on he can make it so :)

And the tab/tubes on the 4th and 5th crossbars are for bicycle fork mounts. I have a hitch mounted carrier, but when I'm towing the tent trailer that won't fly, so I put 4 on the roof rack. They are set down in the tubes so they don't interfere if I want other stuff up there. Or if I'm feeling crazy I can throw on 8 bikes and 8 people!!!

The weight can be shaved down at least another 14-15 lbs by using thinner gauge tubing for the crossbars, but I wanted mine as stiff as possible since I am not losing any weight any time soon.

Nice rack! Definitely on the must-have list.

While I like the idea of custom light brackets, I'm not so sure I'd want to have some fabbed for a specific brand or technology. Things break, wear out, change... I suppose you could always weld-off the stubs if you wanted something different.

Love the built in bike mounts. I have the same issue; use a hitch mount the majority of the time but need to be able to mount additional bikes on the roof or when towing.

Wow that is a great rack! I really like the clean and beefy look is has. I hope to see you out at an event sometime to check this thing out in person. Thanks for posting pics!

Great work. Love the clean rigid install. How did you route the light bar wiring? Pics?

I'll get the wiring installed as soon as it arrives from CO. I am planing on coming down the weird space next to the passenger windshield. Mine is loose and rattles so a piece of wire and some silicone can only help. that way I don't have to put a hole in the roof.

The switches ar going to be in the space under the ashtray, infront of the shifter. I am going to have 4 switches when I'm done and want the to all be grouped together.

4 SWITCHES:

Light bar
integrated dually spots in the bumper
integrated dually amber fogs in the bumper
rear dually floods on the back somewhere

Wind noise factor

Great looking rack and light bar. One thing that really calls my attention is the high front part of the rack which I estimate at about 8" or so. have you thought about wind noise that this design will cause? in other words, it does not look so aerodynamic.

Yeah, I lost 2MPG from my rack even with its front wind deflector, which is a bummer. I'm wondering about fabbing some sort of larger deflector for the top. Maybe integrate a light bar?

I have the Yakima Mega Warrior and decided to take the plastic fairing off to see what it looks like - MAJOR wind noise - almost none with the fairing.

How is the wind noise on your design?

Without the light the wind noise was horrible. With the light in place there is very little wind noise with the roof closed.

The upper bar is set back to allow for a polycarbonate fairing (clear) if need be, but you would have to mount the light bar further back. This was out plan if the wind noise was too bad.
I don't notice anymore noise than with out the rack. UNLESS, the sunroof is open. then it is pretty unbearable above 50 mph.

If I didn't have the light I would definitely have a fairing. But what a great excuse for the light... Honey, It will make the truck so much quieter :)

FYI, I've had a roof rack of some sort on my vehicles since 1982. The easiest way to reduce wind noise is to wrap a wire or bungie cord around the horizontal bars. Same concept as that used on forward antennas. There's no improvement on aerodynamic coefficients, but it definitely addresses issues with round and square tube based racks.

You better bring that 100 series up to the Classic this year and see if it can jump as far as your Tundra did!! Nice looking rack Mike! The roof rack that is!!

We will definitely be back to the classic this year! I think this one will fly as far as the Tundra, but the landing isn't gonna feel nearly as nice, lol.

I put a S/C on this one a couple months back, so now it's almost as fast a a Honda Civic...

Gonna be a few more days before I get the wiring harness installed for the light bar. I had these removed from my leg on Fri AM. The long ones are ~4" long :)

I hope to have the wiring all together by next weekend.

Ouch!

Ought to find a way to mount them on the cruiser!
