Update,

I got the Ts and hoses changed out at a local mechanic I trust ($620) I toyed around with doing it myself, but I've been crushed at work and don't have a back up vehicle were I to fumble the work.

Thank you for the advice. I feel good knowing that I can sleep well knowing that my crusty Ts and hoses are freshened up.

Any other thoughts and things to keep an eye on are very much appreciated.

$620? Thats alot. I understand you got the hoses too, but even with those hoses, your still looking at about one hour of labor and a total cost of $100 in parts and supplies. Even giving the mechanic the benefit of the doubt and imagining that his parts supplier is too expensive id say anything over $250 is complete highway robbery.

Here is a link of what the mechanic did to make approx $500 profit out of your pockets.
At least it is done though. Try to befriend and get associated with some local cruiserheads in your area. It will benefit you greatly. If i was a neighbor id gladly help you do minor maintenance like this so long as youd keep me beer'd up for the duration of my labor. Im sure any cruiserhead would too. A local cruiser community would also be able to do some weekend trailrides and share knowlege of some good camping spots or trails.

Yeah, in retrospect I should have gone to the guy I bought it off of who works at a Lexus dealer and said he'd hook me up with his guy in the service center. Looking at the bill, they changed out 6 hoses, so maybe they didn't know exactly what they were doing? Or they ****ed me. Either way, I won't be using them again. But it'll be a little while before I get anything else done to it. So I can afford to pay that once.

Good news is I took a trip down to the river. I fit myself, 2 of my big tall buddies, 2 tall girls, a ton of beer/food/fishing gear and had a smooth ride down and a comfortable ride back (everyone in the back fell asleep, but the beer probably helped). So I've already been able to use it for the reason I got it. So that makes me happy.

Glad your enjoying it.
Im a very diy person... Also a cheapskate. Even if you did overpay (not your fault but the mechanics), those old t's had to go as such a minor part could ruin the engine.
I didnt mean to sound condescending in the above post. I re-read it and realized that it COULD be taken that way. But i i assure you i wasnt.
I get fired up when my own family talks car maintenance bills they pay as well because i dont like seeing good people getting taken advantage of. Its happened to me in my youth many times before as well... (Literally over 8 grand of maintenance paid into my first 2 cars--1989+1991 crown vics when i was a teenager working fastfood struggling just to pay for my car to get back and forth to work/school. I had ZERO mechanical know-how or common sense and they saw me as a target. My dad would usually pay the bill... And i would pay my dad back in weekly installments)
Websites like this forum and youtube are EXTREMELY resourceful for beginning diy'ers. And car/truck clubs are just as good if not better. Knowledge is shared in these environments and skills are passed on, not witheld for exploitation.
Have fun and enjoy!

No hard feelings m8. Believe me, I'm a fellow cheapskate. I was expecting $300, $350 max. It hurt to pay that. But they've been good to me and my family before. The owner let me pay for a timing belt and new power steering column in installments when I was in college and hard up for money, so I figured I'd give them a shot at the business. Those days are over I suppose. They probably looked at the badge on the front rather than the name on the ticket when they priced the job.

I'm as DIY as I can be, but its my only ride and I've been crushed at work so I figured it was worth it to get it done right once and not have to have that in the back of my mind.

All I have up next is to get some rubber mats and some grease on the hinges to get rid of a slight crunch on 2 of the doors. Other than that, it's been a dream.

Thanks for the response
