The break down on model

F is for six cylinder petrol
J is the letter for utility type vehicle
4 is for 40 series
0 is SWB petrol model
L is left hand drive
V is for Van a hard top model
K is for a four speed transmission
J is for roll bar
A is for American market

Your not having a J and A means it didn't come with a roll bar and is a general market vehicle. You 2F would have have all the US emissions. That means a earlier style air cleaner rather than a narrow oval air cleaner that was over the valve cover to make room for emission on the engine. With the wide jump seats that roll bar was most likely added by the PO here. Guessing that may be the case with the heater also. The factory fog lights are rather small (I have a few sets) and do not draw much wattage. Would suggest using a pilot relay if you plan and installing some higher wattage off road lights. Wouldn't trust 40 year old wiring to handle a load Wasn't meant for. As for A/C not sure a canvas top would work here that well. Planning a factory type A/C but also planning on beefing up the insulation in the cab to help. @murf has 82 with A/C that works well. But it's not factory and the cruiser is V8 powered. @LandCruiserPhil did the build.
Great info I appreciate the detail. I knew the roll bar was not original but didn’t know the other technical info. It does have the larger troopy seats, I had brackets fabricated to make them fit with the roll bar. Engine and air cleaner is as described. No smog! :-) I removed the 60/40 bench and replaced them with buckets out of an 80 and reupholstered everything, also added a center console. I’m ok with it not being accurate since I’m not doing a restoration and have no plans to sell it, making it my own if you know what I mean. Good feedback on the insulation, I already added a bunch under the new floor mats I installed to cut down on heat and road noise which made a really big difference. As for the soft top I’m kind of attached to the look, so unless a great hard top comes across my plate at a great price I’ll probably pull the trigger at some point next year. Looking forward to hitting the trails with you at some point!

The long jump seats are actually standard for the SWB 40 series. 74 the US required a roll bar and narrow jump seats that fit between the roll bar was used. Just so happened I unloaded the parts sitting in the back of my 79 yesterday. I chased the threaded for the jump seats and installed them. I did notice there were a few extra threaded hole along the top of the tub. Was wonder of those were possibly for the wider jump seats. Believe there were four threaded holes on each side. As for buckets seats my currently has 40/60 setup. The driver's is the standard bucket while the wider passenger is from a Middle East pickup.

So you didn't remove the hard top just didn't had one? My 79 came without a top or doors. I've had this one a long time. Shortly after I bought it picked up a top and ambulance doors for $200. Just seen one sold on mid for $2,000. Just too bad the tie dye headliner is now dry rot and brittle. LOL

Looks great! I love the headliner, adds character and the condition of the floor is really outstanding, looks rust free. No I did not remove the top, I know for a fact it had one as it very evident it was previously installed. Not to mention the hinges were still on the body from the now gone ambulance doors supporting piece of rotted plywood as a makeshift tailgate. There was also the factory orange primer visible along the top edge of the tub indicating it was installed when it came from the factory. I think you’re right on the wider holes if memory serves me correctly. There are also a series of holes for some jack handle brackets.

It really is pretty rust free. But not really that clean.

A friend was selling it and asked if I wanted. Thought $2,200 was a little high at the time. But did what I done too many times, went down the rabbit hole and bought.

Up in the Happy Jack area on the rim. The 79 is not road worthy do have a couple a cruisers that are. One is a FJ40.

What is the story on the tailgate? Appears aftermarket. Did the lower corners come round or did you do that. Had a friend who made custom catches for the latches probably twenty year ago. Is someone offering the to use the ambulance doors hinge holes?

Tailgate is aftermarket from real steel cruiser parts and came with the rounded corners. I fabricated the catches myself from 3/16 steel plate to cover the ambulance door hinge holes. I also made the chains and hinges from readily available aftermarket parts, it wasn’t that difficult to do either.

Love what you've done with your truck. You should have a build thread. I like how you've made it your own. I'd offer to help with parts searching and/or tech assistance with Mideast spec stuff; but you clearly have the truck well in hand!

Good to see another Mideast cruiser around. Mine is a 77', also originally from Saudi. I knew yours was Middle East spec by the chrome trim in the window seal... a telltale sign.

Thanks for the offer! I’m sure I will take you up on that offer for help at some point, I’ve been stuck on a few things and it would have been nice to bounce off someone with more experience in locating data and parts. I had considered a build a thread, I have a bunch of pictures. Maybe when I have some free time I’ll start one. Still feel like I have a bunch to do!
