Last week, after a lengthy search, I found an 80 that suited my needs. This site was absolutely invaluable in influencing me to buy my 80 and in mining for information about my new toy. So of course I had to post up and say Thanks!
I bought a 1995, 129k on the odometer and lockers of course. It was the cleanest I could find with maintenance records to accompany the truck. When I first went to look at it I was satisfied with the condition but the lockers would not engage. The owner replied “I never even knew what that switch was for”. To make a long story short, the seller proved himself to be an upstanding gentleman and paid nearly $800.00 dollars to the stealership to replace the diff lock sender on the trans case as well as the diff lock actuators front and rear before I took delivery.
In the week I have had it I have become enamored with the truck. It has met my every need thus far and impressed me with its off road capabilities in stock form. I bought the truck to use as a daily driver and to wheel as much as possible. I swore to myself I would wheel it in the first week of ownership. Accordingly, I took it to Big Bear, CA yesterday to run the Gold Mountain trail (yeah, I know it’s the easy one but the truck is neither lifted or armored so I am taking it easy until I complete the mods). I proceeded to mangle the running boards which I found quite humorous. Well, enough blabbering, here are a few pics:
