Last month i bought a 1997 fzj80 and the Michelins that came on it are over 10 years old plus the spare is destroyed - new tire time. I'm looking to go with 285's now and add the 861/862 lift once I'm finished base lining. The two tires I'm looking at are the new cooper atw and BF ko2. I'm hoping some people have some real world experience with these tires. I need to make a decision in the relatively near future. Any insight is much appreciated!

I recently got a set of Cooper ST/Maxx. They're a lot quieter than I expected. They handle great on road, in the rain, and did fairly well in the mud. I wanted KO2s, but they weren't available yet. I don't regret getting the Coopers at all.

I've never ran the Coopers, but I've run over 250k on various KO's (80, 100, F150, F250). I recently put KO2's on my 100, but I've only had very light trail time with them, so I have no real feedback there. As far as highway ride and noise, they are right on par with the KO's. We've had pretty good snow over the last couple of weeks and can tell you this--the KO2 performs much, much better on the snow than the KO.

I have the Cooper ST/Maxx on my 96 and they are great winter tires. I have drove over several snow packed and icy passes this wi tee already here in CO and they are great. I have Duratracs in my Duramax, and the Coopers are way quieter. I have not had the KO2s yet for comparison.

I'm assuming you meant AT3 and not ATW - too close on the keyboard? I've got two friends with the Cooper AT3s on their Tundras, and another with a set on her Wrangler. They all love them. Not much in the way of hardcore wheeling reports from any of them, but they handle great on the highway, are super on crappy dirt roads fishing and hunting, and did great in the snow and ice we've had in Portland over the last couple winters.

I've been super happy with my Bridgestone Dueler AT Revos (gen I), but I haven't been quite as impressed with the Revo2. My friend had both on his FJC back to back, and the Revo2 didn't last nearly as long. My original Revos are so old, they are all cracked and weathered. 60-something-thousand miles on them and still decent tread, but they need to go soon. Like a year ago. Probably going with the Cooper AT3 when I catch up from the holidays.

Ok, just saw there is an ATW winter tire from Cooper. Kind of apples and oranges comparing them to the BFG AT-KO2, or any other non-winter-specific tire.

You should check out the Goodyear Duratracs. They are an aggressive AT tire with good siping for winter weather. They look great under an 80 too.

Both tires are probably too new to get any feedback on yet. My past experience with the BFGs have been good, no experience with Cooper. I guess the question is how will you use the vehicle? If it is primarily on the blacktop then I don't think you will have any issues with either tire, or just about any other tire for that matter. How much off road driving will you do and what type? Rocks, mud, sand, snow? How you use the tire should determine which one to use.

No experience with the either, but have seen the new KO2, and it looks very nice - seems to have more siping for snow. I have had several sets of BFG KO's and when it came time to re-shoe last fall, I didn't think twice about it. Have always gotten impressive mileage out of them, even wear and the balance of on road manners / off road performance is great.

C6h1206- i don't think the atw is a winter tire. Looks like it's the at3 with softer compound and more sipes. Cooper calls it an all season all terrain tire.

My brother has a set on duratracs, they were great for the first 5 months but now they're very loud on the highway and you can tell the siping had all but disappeared.

Picture so you know I'm not lying. 136k on the clock. Just got a box from Beno. Cant wait to dive in.

My buddy sent me a link that has pretty good test of tires for you.

Personally, I have run the original KO and wasn't impressed. I ran it for 40k miles on my truck before they were shot and then moved over to a Nitto Terra Grappler. I've got almost that many miles on em and they've been a pretty good tire. The deep snow performance is pretty solid with them.

I have a set of 285-75-16 Ko2 on our 80 and they are great except in heavy rain and pure ice they are a M/T!

They really shine at 10 psi off-road

I got them sipped for about $15 plus tax at my local peerless tire. it was worth it for the snow traction and decreases chunking of the lugs when you air down and use them hard. I personally think it helps with wear on the pavement as well to break some surface tension.

I highly recommend them if you actually use them but if your pounding the pavement I'd stick with the coopers.

I have Cooper AT3 on my 4runner and f350. Great tire. Really good in snow. great in rain. Nice beefy look. No off-road review here as both are street driven only.

Half k cruiser- I'm open to other options.
BFGATKO was the worst tire I had for snow and ice so.....Cooper ATP is competitively priced @discounttire.com

Went to drive to the store today to pick up a few things and it started shuttering/shaking under load. It had done this 2 other times while going up a hill but this time it was almost constant under load. Anyway it threw a P0306(#6 misfire) so it looks like I'll have a little bit more time before I make a tire decision. I was already going to replace plugs/wires, plug seals, dizzy cap/rotor, pcv/grommet, throttle body gasket. Now it looks like I have to check the heat wrap on the wiring harness near the egr valve like others have mentioned before. I'll probably send out the injectors to be serviced just in case. Just had the head gasket tested before I bought it a month ago so I'm confident its not a HG failure. In the mean time I'd love to hear some reviews on the Cooper ATW!
