Thought it might keep some of the snow/ice from freezing up the cable when I try to free-spool out in the winter. If nothing else it's a good place to put my coffee when unloading groceries.

I like it. What is the story on that winch?

Looks like a steam locomotive!

me likey...

You have the same color cruiser I did, right down to the line-x accents!

Thx guys.

HZJ60 guy, it's a 20+ yr old Ramsey worm drive industrial winch that I rescued from my 40 series before selling. Managed to find a new 24V motor to run it. Just looking for 24V relays now and we're in bizness.

Doc, in hindsight it does look like a steam locomotive. The weight is slowly getting there too. Line-x is a godsend.

That thing is super bad!! Do you have any more pics of the fabbing proccess?

Garth,
Any pics of the rear bumper? Did you make it as well?

Sorry, no pics of the fabbing process. I built it in the evenings while helping a welder friend out while he went on holidays. The basic idea is 3x3x3/8 angle iron on top of the framehorn (corner to the inside bottom). 3x3/8 flatbar down the side of the framehorn and welded to the angle iron on top to make a solid winch mounting point. I had to shorten one side of the original angle iron winch frame enough that it would fit between the frame rails...winch is offset to driver's side now. All mounting points (6 on each side) are the factory bumper/tow hook mounting holes. The front is 3x2x3/16 rectangular tubing that was cut to taper up and back on the sides. There are triangular gusset plates to strengthen the sides as they angle back. The cowcatcher bars are 7/8 cold roll that I bent using a vice, snipe, and oxy-acetalene torch. Lots and lots of measure, heat, bend, test fit, burn hand, heat, bend, test fit...you get the idea. The top platform is a peice of 5x1/8 flatbar. The hook on front is a 1" u-bolt from a big truck custom bent on a 2.5" die. Holes were punched through the bumper and the u-bolt was welded to both the front and back of the 3x2. The guy in the bay next door arranged sandblasting and then powdercoated it for me.

I built the back bumper too but it's way more of a hack-job. I got nailed by the popo and had to report back for inspection with a bumper height of no more than 29.5" and mudflaps. Now it's got a 2" receiver, a mount for a bike rack, and trailer wiring...too much work into it to start over. I'll post a pic tomorrow.

Brian, thx for the info on the Curtis Albright Contacters. I will definitely pursue it. That is one badass 80 in the link you posted.
