That would be a great sales pitch to an insurance company...that you'd be willing to "salvage" the existing bumper if they'll just finance the ARB, or etc.

Maybe, but the OEM bumper cover (and insurance companies don't use OEM, they stick used or re-pro parts on damaged vehicles) is significantly less than an ARB or custom job. I just happen to get lucky that the bodyshop estimate put extra parts on the paper. Either way, thanks for the free steel bumpers State Farm!

Really? Some years back, State Farm (my ins. Co.) sent out a letter noting our right to OEM parts. It was (IIRC) the result of a lawsuit where people were getting sub-par repairs. Perhaps that's a California thing...?

Maybe. I spoke to the body shop estimate guy. He basically said, why would an insurance company put new parts on a used vehicle? The part that was damage was used so they have the right to put another used one on there. There may be additional clauses you can sign up for that demand NEW OEM.

Used OEM would be better than many after market bumpers that tend to be painted to match...followed by peeling.

I dunno. I'm curious now. Think I'll do some googling... ;)

How much is a factory colored, non-painted bumper?

Is there such a thing? Seems any replacement would have to be painted to match, no?

I don't know. Pretty sure they aren't painted when first built...? My scraped up bumpers show no signs of primer or paint. Just gouged, colored plastic. Like a plastic coating or something. I dunno...

They are all painted. The plastic does not come colored. Certain parts you can order from Toyota pre painted like door handles or mirrors but bumper skins all need to be painted. When I was sawing mine into bits to toss and was really flexing it paint chipped off.

Was it flat black? Probably just primered from the factory.

If it's paint, then wow. -It is the most peel-proof paint I've ever seen.

**Looking up parts, and *I am wrong* and you are right.**

Well ... if you buy an OEM bumper cover from a Toyota dealer you get one that, "... comes unprimed from OEM. Preparation is required."

HTH

Ya. I had just looked at that page a few seconds before, and I was wrong.

Group hug?

Insurance won't be involved in my particular case. Dealer just gave me an estimate, $1550 out the door.

Even though my truck isn't lifted yet, i can't see putting that money toward putting it back to factory when for just a little more i could do the armor.

Right now i'm leaning toward the Proline. It's low key (they will do solid black without any CNC writing on the center panel) and available in 2 weeks.

My first inclination was to go ARB, but i'll be honest, these pics from Slee's site with the nasty looking bumper skin trim jobs hurt my feelings.
