New Ads

Hey Woody,

I am getting a new ad placement on the page today.
I used to only see the ad across from the ih8mud logo, now I get a page wide ad - circled in red - in addition.
All the advertising settings are disabled in my Thread Display Option, can you advise?

The 728x90 you circled is replacing the 468x60 for all direct advertisers beginning January 1...experimenting over the holidays to ensure no problems.

468x60 was depreciated by the IAB a couple years back and has been on my chopping block ever since.

The 728x90 is the primary position for direct advertisers. The 468x60 ad call will be removed in the next couple weeks as part of some simple page redesign work.

Parts of this is also necessary to make the page more useable on various mobile devices and addressing issues with responsive design.

New ad banner slowing down page loading

Hi Woody,

I'm noticing on mud a new banner that is severely slowing down the page loading speed. Can this be avoided? I've checked all related ad opt out options under user control panel, but can't avoid it. I'm on OSX 10.4, Safari 4.1.2.

Yup... slow speeds, stupid banners.

Also, I am now getting the pop up banners from the bottom on my PC's that I was only getting on my iPhone before.

That issue was never resolved either.

It looked like these disappeared yesterday, so I was going to login and say "Thanks!", but they are back today.



Any progress on an "Opt Out" option for subscribers?

Re-added to the option for now. It WILL be back someday, as it WILL be the primary position for supporting Vendors. I finally solved some display issues over the weekend, but am waiting on some other things to happen before I eliminate the 468x60 position.

It WAS resolved. Apparently, a new one has returned. PC's too now? Great, I'll dig mine out of mothballs and start using that to see if I can get a banner to pop up...the new issue reported by others (in a different thread) is on iPads...which I broke down and bought last week and am now learning to use.
