The a/c compressor on our 97 started making noise the a/c clutch is not engaged. In other words, when the a/c is turned off, or when it cycles "off". My extended warranty runs out in approx 1k miles, (the truck has 162K on her). I took it to Toyota, and they verified it needs a compressor, the extended warranty company covered it, so I pay $100 ded. I think a new one is about $500 or so, plus labor. I did pay $1500 for the warranty though DOH!!

did you use the warrenty for anything else? or is this the first time you used it?

That's it!! I hesitated to buy the warranty in the first place, after all, it is a TOYOTA!! But I had visions of leaking axle seals in it's future. That hasn't happened, yet.

is your power steering pump making noise?
is your starter "clicking" (starting to go)?
how about your windshield washer diverter?
antenna cable broken?

Some of the things I had covered under my CPO warranty. Mine didn't cost extra (per se), but I made sure to use it when ever I could.

That extended warranty must've provided a little peace of mind...

Must've been a fairly short time period on that warranty.

If haven't done, try putting M1 syn. (or other syn. fluids) to see if that promotes it :)

Not related but I bought mine at 35Kmiles+ and the front diff fluid was completely black when drained. I then spotted diff. fluid start forming on the right front axle at around 65K - brought it to the dealer and they did the front axle for free. If your front diff. fluid is black & dense, you might wanna blame on the front inner seals; worth a try I guess :)

Few things that I had them replaced under CPO:
. antenna cable (did not fully retract)
. door lock module (doors unlock on hard left - scary)
. all sliding windows + rear hatch window (tint bubbling)
. left rear most flare (still had the unpainted replacement since they replaced only the plastic nut)
. front axle service

That's about it that I could remember.

No, none of those things. The warranty was for 2 yrs. or 24K miles.

I think it's something I'm gonna have to take care of eventually by myself!!

Doug, what's the washer fluid diverter? What went wrong with yours?

Josh,
It stopped squirting the windshield. Would only squirt in the rear (hatch). I temporarily fixed it by swapping out the hoses, but had to have them replace it twice. First replacement died after 2 weeks -- apparently a bad part.

One thing to look for is if you get front washer leaking when you squirt the rear hatch. Mine did this each time it went out -- might be a sign that the diaphagm is going out or somthing...

Not a huge fix, but a $40 or $50 part (per lexus)

In general, extended warranties make auto companies and dealers a TON of money...I've seen some stats and they are amazing!

Cheers, Hugh
