After a few months of searching for a new rig to replace my 2009 Platinum Sequoia I found this 1 owner 99' LX in Palo Alto with only 60k on eBay. I flew down to San Jose one Saturday morning with cash and by 9:30 I was en route to Portland via I5. The tires may not have been original but they were close with all 4 with considerably different wearing and cracked side walls. Despite my better judgement due to knowing I wasn't keeping the stocks on I did not throw new rubber on before my 700 mile journey.
Luckily it was a benign weather day through Shasta and Siskiyou passes and I made it home safe, fully expecting to have a tire blow on the way. I didn't fall in love with the LX on the way home mainly due to the incredible body roll provided by the lack of integrity of the sidewalls but also do to the truck only have had 3k miles put on it in the last 5 years.
I've now had it for a few weeks and find myself enjoying it more and more every day. It's been hard going from the Sequoias refined ride and incredible power but I keep reminding myself that this is considerably older and ridiculously cheaper. I have since had the almost perfect seats restored as well as swapped the stock 16" rims for a set of 2010 or 11' Tundra wheels. I feel that the vehicle handles better and looks much sexier in my opinion. If anyone is interested in the wheels I am happy to let them go as I'll never turn this into a wheel truck.
I am completely replacing the nakamichi system next tuesday with a Pioneer 4100nex head unit, morel tempo ultra 602's in the front doors and tempo ultra integra's in the rear. Powering them will be a kenwood xr900-5 that will also feed a hertz 10" sub in the rear. I feel a little immature with the external sub but I couldn't bring myself to spend an extra grand to have a custom fiberglass enclosure built in the stock space yet. Also adding the Alpine license plate back up cam.
I am not sure what else I'll do to the rig other than an hid conversion kit for the fogs and main bulbs. I will mainly use this as my daily driver and occasional hiking/camping/mountain truck. I do need a tow kit if anyone has suggestions as to find an oem kit or for an aftermarket product that is tried and trusted.
Thanks and any suggestions/comments are appreciated. I'll post up close interior pics when the stereo is installed. This is being done at NW Autocraft in NE Portland.
Cheers,
Jeff
