Hello Folks -

I hang around in the 60 section pretty much exclusively, and am fairly well versed in those beasts, but have almost no experience with 40s (except from repeated ogling of Mark Algazy's collection )

Well, I gots da fever :D and had to have one. So this is my first 40 ... No, she isn't the prettiest girl on the block, but there's little to no rust (CA truck), and to my untrained eye, seems like a good start for a project... (please, comments welcome). Date on plate is Aug of 1974

As you can see, she's without engine and trans- an aborted V8 conversion - but that's ok 'cuz I have an H55f and '87 2F in the garage that will be going in ...

So forgive all the coming newbie questions, because I've got a lot to learn - even after reading ALL the fAQs.

I plan to pull the body and blast and paint the frame and body, as well as brake and suspension rebuild - as a start.

Good for you Spike, That one will keep you busy for a while!!!

Yeah, no injuries...he had airbags, and I had....well, an FJ..;-). I was sitting still and he spun and threw my truck 20 feet! That's a hell of an impact from a Porsche to an almost 2 1/2 ton truck!
It looks to have bent the front of the frame and sheared the front left spring hanger right off the frame horn. every steering rod was bent like taffy..
..but, I did start it and maneuver it a little bit to help out loading on the flat bed tow truck...it's crazy how tough these things are! If they total it, I'll rebuild it myself...I'll never let this truck go.

There's where the spring perch is now...overall, though, from ten feet, you wouldn't notice much damage...but it's there.

I would love to see what the 9.11 looked like :crybaby:!!

If you're interested, there's a guy in South Gate who has a '74 frame, excellent cond... I've seen it ...

Question:

This obviously isn't the stock Motor Mount...

Are aftermarket ones available? Or do I have to make some -- Or where can I get stock? (2F in going in...)

You will certainly want to keep the Zebra-Skin Seat Covers....

Regards -

Rocky

OBTW: October '74 (with an 85 2F installed)

Man, everybody's been dissin' me over those seat covers! Don't worry - plans are for the whole things to be replaced.

So, Rocky, the 2F should just bolt in? What are you running behind the 2F ?

So THIS is what you pulled the trigger on?

:p

JK. You are REALLY gonna have a hoot building a non-smog cruiser. And when you get done finding out how much peppier that powertrain is in a truck that weighs 1500 lbs less, we may even make a convert out of you!:D

I think I have a pair of stock engine mount brackets on the shelf. Watcha doing for lunch on Friday? ;)

Congrads.

Thanks, Mark.

Buying you lunch and buying some parts!! :D

Yeah, I've got a bunch of work ahead, but like you said, when it's done it'll be done right and no better way to learn about something that to figure out how to put it back together.

I'm estimating a 12 month pregnancy...

:D:crybaby:

Nice find there!

One day I hope to have one too....

Good luck in your build.

Thanks, Mark.

I may well be interested. I'll find out in a few days what the verdict is and let you know... hopefully, insurance just rebuilds my baby! Thanks for the heads up on the frame!

Cool Mr spike! my gray 40 truck is a 74 also so is the 55.

congrats man

Nice one, Spike. I have an 8 74 myself and am local AZ if you wanna chat sometime. I think I know a guy with a pail full of stock motor mounts here in town.

I've got the stock 4 speed (my model year was the first to get them) and the stock T-case.

I haven't had any trouble with them. The 2F bolted right into the engine bay. The hard part was adapting all of the accessories (Alternator Switched Sides & Type, Dizzy Wiring, Fitting the '85 Charcoal Canister, and throttle linkage).

The throttle linkage was the hardest one.

Hey Calico ! Thanks - Didn't know yours was a '74! - My plans are to put in a '86 2F, H55 and a late 38mm split case. :D

Thanks, Mike - Mark Algazy already set me up with a pair. I may ask for some pictures from time to time, if you don't mind, as I figure out where things are supposed to go.

Hey Rocky, that's good to know - I'm not looking forward to to the electrical part of this - definitely NOT my strong point - but if worse comes to worse, after I get the drive-train in, I take it somewhere and say 'make it go' :D

:hillbilly:

Throttle linkage is going to be a cable on the stock '74 carb (after Mark Algazy's rebuild) ...
