Hi, I'm Nate, a new Land Cruiser owner (1999). My first Toyota.

My car recently got rear ended and totaled, a Subaru WRX STi. I cannot drive a regular commuter car or grocery getter and this article inspired me to finally consider SUV's (real SUV's!).

http://www.expeditionportal.com/resources/91-guide/351-top-10-used-overland-vehicles.html

After extensively lurking IH8MUD I was set on an 80 or 100 series Land Cruiser or Lexus. Also, my crazy aunt used to drive an FJ55 all over America. She makes a lot more sense to me now.

I am still wrangling my money out of GEICO, so mods are yet to come! But in the meantime I found my Cruiser. A 1999 with a lot options. Looks very well taken care of and I am happy. The only broken thing I noted was the power antenna, maybe from the aftermarket radio install? Doesn't matter.

Also it needs new tires, snif snif, I'm reeeeal sad about having to buy new tires already :grinpimp:

Congrats on the purchase!!

Good looking machine. welcome to the club.

As for the antenna, does the electric motor still run? Then there might be an easy and cheap fix for you.
Mine was broken and didn't retract anymore so I bought one of these off ebay. Cleaned the electric motor and popped the new antenna in. There is a write up somewhere.

Nice rig Trustey!

Did you get the rear locker?

Also, check the 100 series FAQ for the antenna replacement - very common.

nice!

I'm curious to see what you find when you baseline it.

And to see how you cope with going from a fast car like an STI to one that, well, let's just say luckily it's the journey not the destination :-)

I love driving my hundred from the last century! My plan is to eventually move my parts to an '06 when they get cheaper

Does anyone know what these are (in the third pic I posted)? There is one on each side in the front. Are they for towing the LC or mounting a bull bar?

I am extremely jealous of whoever had a nice enough motorhome to tow this behind, AND a LC for their "putting around town" car.

I think I did (first pic unless you were being sarcastic haha)! This is my first truck with one. :steer:

The only wheeling I've ever done before was in my *biggest tires that would fit a stock F-150 FX4* in Hawaii. I had lifted my STi and tore up the windmill access roads out here in Eastern Oregon, but was pretty kind to it other than that. So yes, this was actually the first diff locker switch I had ever seen

Wecome to the addiction. I used to live in La Grande myself and still know a few people out there... Pretty area!

That's cool. Any pointers on some good trails? Now that the snow is clearing I want to see how much further up Mt. Emily I can get. I haven't done much 4x4'ing, I grew up in the city and recently decided to settle here.

I recently put on the OME medium suspension lift, torsion bars, and diff drop from Slee. Removed the running boards myself but had the rest done at a great new shop here since I don't have tools or a garage. A good mechanic in La Grande is hard to find, and these guys do Harley's too which is a plus for me. Turns out he has 4x4 mechanic experience and business connections from Portland too so I might be ordering some ARB parts from him soon.

I have some WKOR sliders to paint and bolt on next.

I went with 295's, but the more I read forum posts the more I want 35's.

My current goal with this truck is to take the kids up to Top of The World, Moab on the way to visit Grampa this Summer. I'd like to have a winch and front bumper on before then.
