Just picked up a 98 cruiser with all the options and love it. i am looking for a cold air intake but the ones for the 100 seem to start at 1999. Does anyone make a complete assembly for a '98?
Also hwy mpg seems to be about 16, does this sound about right?

Can't answer the question about the 98/99 difference, however if you search for 'deck plate mod' you'll find a well functioning DIY intake alternative.

Regarding the mileage, 16 is about right. I've seen in th 17-18 range, but it depends upon load, tire size/pressure, speed, etc. Above 2000 rpm seems to be the point at which mileage decreases rapidly.

Welcome to the club!

Everybody is getting hundy's! Welcome!

Welcome to the 100 Club! I usually get around 16-18 on the highway, so yeah that sounds about right.

The 99 intake will work for your 98. No difference.

But rethink doing this. Only minimal power gain, if at all, and increased chance of hydrolock. Even the deckplate mod is garbage. If you want sound, get a muffler.

With a very light foot, and keeping below 2,000 RPM (about 65 MPH), I was able to get seven consecutive tanks in the 19 - 19.5 MPG range with the OEM 275/60-18 Bridgestone Dueler H/T's on a 2,200 mile trip in November 2009. That same trip last week with 275/70-18 BFG AT KO's yielded average MPG's just over 17. Same driver, route and load, and similar weather conditions. Load included a family of four, a roof-mounted Thule Evolution 1600 stuffed to capacity, and a hitch-mounted bike rack and tri bike (though the bike's weight is negligible). YMMV.

Thats what I'm saying. Your cruiser thinks your covering less ground than you really are.

i think i will for go the intake, sounds like the power gain isn't worth the trouble. one last question for now, i see some vehicle pictures with the stock rims painted. are these powder coated or is there an easier yet still durable method?

Was that on 92, 89 or 87? I'm straddling the fence on 89.

FWIW, The 08 MDX that I had (horrible vehicle!) got 27 on the highway clean an 22 with a hitch rack (SwingDaddy).

I can't speak for everyone, but as someone who has been looking into making his wheels black, it certainly appears to me that the powder coat vs. painting argument leans heavily towards painting. It's got some elbow grease time factored into the equation, but it's an order of magnitude cheaper. And unless someone can testify conclusively otherwise, it seems that powder coating isn't all that more durable for painting.

Some questions:
I recently acquired a 04 Cruiser with a 6cyl diesel with a five speed. I'm in afganistan for awhile and would like to add some lift to it. Since getting parts here is difficult, I want to make a lift for it. Should just fab some spacers or do a total custom fab suspension. Tonight I am installing a full Exo skeleton roll cage. 35" tires are very soon to come once our supply's get here. Trying to give a counterpart so lessons on fabrication. I do have access to machine shop and pretty much any materials that I may need to do just about everything. So help would be very helpful. Pics of process to come shortly. Thanks for any help.

For that kind of weight your adding, definitely want to replace the torsion bars, lets see if you can make some! You can just adjust the front t-bars for more height and add spacers in the back, but that is only nice with stock weight.

Definitely want pictures.

I have only run 87 since I purchased my 2003 Land Cruiser in May 2009. I read all the threads here, and in the end decided that even in stock form this rig is a big enough pig without spending an extra $0.10 to $0.20 per gallon. Start adding larger, heavier tires and loading it up with gear...

1LoudLX-
I don't have adjustments on the T-Bars. I'm going to weld in some blocks to try to get 3" out of it. I took some pics to post here when the internet gets alittle better. This LC is a beast! Taken it through some military driver training courses and it has impressed everyone that has rode with me. The only reason for the full roll cage is that one of these afternoons we are going to roll it, and like to stay safe. Also in the near future i am turboing this diesel engine. Since i have the european edition, be nice to get a little more performance out of her. I think its that we have to much time on our hands!?!
