Okay, having had 6 Land Cruisers so far I can tell you for 100% fact the 100 is the nicest.. 5 Months ago I would have kicked my own ass for saying this and would have spent a month telling you why the 80 was better as I owned 2 of them... Now however, I've had a couple days to get use to the 100 and it's grown on me REAL quick!! The 100 just stepped into a whole new class for fact.. I won't wheel this and that's what got me to switch, since it won't be used offroad why have the 80.. It cost me $1,500 to upgrade from a 96 to a 2000 so what do I have to bitch about...

Okay though, here's where I need some help.. My pops has a new Tacoma, I can't see why somebody would drop $30k on one, I wouldn't swap for my Cruiser that's for fact.. I think he has a slight issue with it as well as it's clear the Cruiser is nicer.. So he tried to bash on it a little, poking fun at the IFS and the timing belt and so on, saying the Tacoma doesn't need the belt change..

I guess I just need some info on the following:

1) Is the IFS on the Tacoma and the Land Cruiser the same type system or in what way is the LC beefed up?

2) Can the ATRAC keep up with the rear locker in the Tacoma or are there some things he can do with that real locker that the ATRAC can't match?

3) Timing belt, I know you get more proformance out of a motor with one but why does the $60k LC have a belt and the Taco a chain? I would assume this has to do with the 32 valve motor...

I guess all the ammo you can give me for a debate would be a huge help!!! Here are the specs on my new purchase:

2000
White
118,000 Miles
One Owner
Clean Carfax
Lojack
PERFECT INSIDE AND OUT!!! Not a nick dent or anything else!
Very few records
Manifold leak at startup
Everything works
CA it's whole life, no rust

$14,002 on eBay...

I prefer the coilover style IFS on the Tacoma to the torsion bars on the LC but the components on the LC are much beefier than the Tacoma. The LC has the largest CV's or any IFS production 4x4. Front diff is stronger, etc. Rear end is stronger too.

TRAC is more versitile than the e-locker. The TRAC system will be used more often than the e-locker for sure. You can add a locker but you can't add TRAC to a Tacoma. The LC also has full time 4wd.

The 4.7 V8 is a great motor. Nothing wrong with the belt. Have not heard of a single failure yet, not even with people who did not change it.

I love Tacomas and used to own one too but the LC/LX is simply a nicer vehicle. My parents have a 2005 Tacoma 4x4 and 2002 4 runner 4x4 and they like my LC better after having driven it a few times.

Considering that your LC cost half as much, I'd say you are in business. Do some PM and enjoy your new LC.

Your kidding with the comparison right??? That is like comparing a Porsche 911 with a Volkswagon Rabbit. Tell your old man to "LOOK" at the Landcruiser and then look at his Tacoma. If the world of difference doesn't hit him between the eyes it's time to take the old bird to the closest nursing home.

NO KIDDING!! I just wanted some cold hard facts... The Araco sticker in my door is all I need.. Them both having IFS and me doing SO much bitching about IFS in the past I guess I just wanted some extra help in that department as to why the LC was better...

Just have your dad get on mud and do some reading. I think that will do the trick.

The one question I have tried to find out since getting this 100 is what is the difference in the IFS? I know it was changed after 99, what was done and what makes it better or bigger then most? I found a lot of links on the net for removing the torsion bars so it looks like there is some reason people don't like the setup on the LC...

Have your dad drive it form AZ to California that should do the trick! :flipoff2: (I’ve owned one, no comparison).

The only change was from a 2 pinion to a 4 pinion front differential. Never heard of anyone wanting to remove the torsion bars? You need to do a lot of research and reading on this site your knowledge will expand and you will know why the 100 series is one of the toughest and most dependable SUV's made.

IFS is the same (LX uses different t-bars plus AHC but the overall design is the same AFAIK).
