so it turns out i need a good running 2f motor for my 76, mines got a bad knock in the block... needs to be close enough i can drive to get it... anyone have one cheapish, or i could trade for other parts, i got lots....

will keep my ears open for you.....There was an 84-complete near me a while ago, he wanted 750 tho...

ive still got the block and head from the other 76 fj55 i parted out, its supposed to be a runner, i got both, the one i parted and the one i kept from the same guy, he said he drove the other one home from tahoe to grass valley... but the block has been outside wrapped in a tarp all winter, its kinda rusty... im half tempted to use it anyway...
and thanks for looking out for one for me, i want to drive it asap!

FYI...I am wrapping up an 86 2F install in my 77 pig. Use the clutch assembly bellhousing and throwout arm/bearing/hub from the 76-run the 86 starter on it. My 86 has the oil cooler, so I kept that and the water pump that goes w/ it. THAT meant that I had to run an electric fan-86 fan and clutch would be IN radiator otherwise. You may find that an older clutchless fan on an older water pump will clear. I opted to keep my oil cooler and corresponding pump. I am in cali, and have to smog, so I ran the later exhaust on the earlier intake- both cleaned up really well. In hindsight, I would have run the later style intake:meh:. I AM using the electronic dizzy from the 86 for now, and the 86 alternator. Keep in mind that your 76 dizzy is a vacuum retard, and you will need to de smog in order to run the later vac advance dizzy w/ your vacuum control valving... Perhaps the most important thing I need to bring up here is that all 2F heads, after 80 sometime, have an alloy plug that fills an oil gallery port above and slightly forward of #5 spark plug. This plug is well known to pop out, especially after any type of hot tanking. When this plug goes, your oil will evacuate the block on the right side- not one drop will hit the exhaust and make smoke, your first clue that something is wrong is when the press drops to zero on the dash and the mill grinds to a halt. There are threads on this in the 40-55 tech and the 60 tech pages. It is an easy(tedious and nerve racking, but easy)fix. But I strongly recommend you do the drill and tap job w/ you block on the ground. Let me know if you have any Qs or need any fittment pics.

hey, thanks a lot... i was just readin a thread on here about all that. i just picked up a good 86 2f complete, looks like it recently had a head job, its all clean as hell, with all new freeze plugs. im gonna start my swap soon, and most of the swap looks easy, i already desmogged my 85 fj60, header, holley carb, minimal vacuum lines, open smog pump, for water pump pulley... should be about the same when im done??? but the bellhousings are throwin me off, i wanna use my 76 4sp and t-case, 76 clutch, cause its fairly new and the 86 aint... will the 86 bellhousing bolt to my 76 tranny? thanks and ive got a new chevy v8 single core radiator in it, and ive got 2 electric fans to go in too...

W/ the older trans and case, you'll need to use the older bell housing. No big. Use all the clutch components from the same years, ie, the pressure plate of a 76 must go into a 76 bellhousing and use 76 fork etc.....

i was gonna use the clutch stuff from the 76 anyway cause its a good set, and the one in the 86 wasnt as good i guess, because i got a new clutch kit with it that the p.o. didnt put in... and i kinda need it for the wifes fj60 anyway, man, i got alot in this trade, i got lucky... and do i use the 76 or 86n starter? or does it matter? maybe use it to match w/the flywheel?
