Edit: Got it..thanks for looking.

If you've read any of my other posts, you'll know that when it rains it pours. I'm trying to get my engine back together, only to find out that my kids cleaned up one night and threw out my intake manifold gaskets that i bought from CDan. CDan is out of the office 'til next week and everybody else wants to charge me $40.00 for overnight shipping!! I'm trying to get it all back together for a Friday morning trip.

Does anyone have an 'extra' set of intake gaskets laying around I can buy from you??

c-dan's boys will do it for you.

Cdans boys are more than able to take up the slack. Just give em a call & tell em you are from MUD (they will usually ask). Same great service.
Cheers,
Sean

Sweet. I didn't know if mud was a common thing in the parts department or if it was just CDan. Didn't want to ruin a good thing with a noob screw up! Thanks!

My bad, I waited until after the Overnight cutoff. Now I have to take the minivan camping. Oh well. Thanks for your help!

re-use the old ones if you still have them.

I thought about that. One of them got a little tweaked and someone mentioned a risk of leaks in another post. I don't know how big a deal that is on the intake, but I didn't really want to take the plenum off again next week. The ridges are still present on the old gaskets, and I think the tweak is small enough to be pressed out when the bolts are tightened down. The gasket got twisted a little so it's not like there is a crack or a crease, just a little out of shape.

What do you think? What is the risk of having a problem and how big a deall is a little leak at the intake manifold? If I can re-use the old ones, we'll go wheeling and do some exploring while we are in the mountains. If not, we'll stick to the roads and hiking.

Either way, I ordered new and they'll be here Friday afternoon...too late for our trip.

I would re-use them if the bend isn't bad. They are metal gaskets.

Ditto - maybe a smear of sealant at the deformation. But you're pushing it to get the intake back on by departure tomorrow, I'm afraid.

No way! I stayed up all night, didn't sleep. Took her for a test drive this morning (5:00 am) for about 20 miles. The idle was high, but thanks to other threads I was able to adjust the correct cables and it now sits happily at 850.

The only thing that's a little odd, and I don't know what it did before now, but the oil pressure fluctuates from below the halfway mark on the gauge to the 3/4 mark. I obviously have the idiot gauge with no numbers and I don't yet know what the pressure numbers should be.

The magneto came out of the starter when I originally pulled it off to get to the PHH. I'd never dealt with a starter like that and didn't think anything of it till I tried to put it back on. I spent about 5 hours trying to get that thing put back together...one of the screws on the end cap was stripped out and wouldn't budge. I broke 2 drill bits and wore down 3 before I gave up. I never even got past the head. I finally bent 4 cotter pins to be spring clamps and wedged them to hold the brushes back, then dropped the magneto in and pulled out the cotter pin springs. Worked like a champ.

Oh, and I lost all my 12mm sockets and my ratcheting box wrench. That'll slow things down!

In the end I found a few bolts that the engineers added as extra's (obviously!) I checked everything I could think of or find, but I can't figure out where they go. The plenum is sealed up tight and everything else is battened down. And I lost 2 nuts from the where the EGR mounts to the plenum. My Subaru donated a left nut and a right nut from the suspension towers to let Lucy take us to the mountains today. I guess I'll have to change her name from Lucy to Ed or something now.

I'm taking my tools in case I missed something, here's hoping I didn't! Thanks!

My son, the same one who likes sword fights, just came in and put his arms around me, then he started crying. I asked what was wrong, was he hurt? After he gained a little composure, just enough to speak through sobs, He said, 'Thanks for fixing Lucy.' I asked if that was all, he said, 'Yes. I'm just so happy. Thank you.', and he continued to cry for a few minutes. Now THERE'S a cruiserhead! It made staying up all night worth it.

Thanks for all your help everybody!

you should start a blog ;)

the oil pressure should be between the two middle lines. At the top middle line on the highway accelerating under load and at the bottom middle line at hot idle. However, it is not unusual for a truck to read a little ways below the middle line at very hot idle after a while. you can partially address this with a different oil. I found the real fix was a valve grind ;)

Yeah, I get a little long winded sometimes. Sorry.

I guess I won't worry about too much. I'll wait until the next oil change and see what happens.

850RPM is too high. Spec is 650 out of gear with AC disengaged.
