Phil,
Love the NV4500 adapter you're working on...sorry I don't have any measurements to help your immediate block.

Sidebar question as I have been looking for ways to swap a manual tranny into my '91 - why isn't the 6spd manual RA61F used in FJ Cruisers a transplant possibility? There must be some physical reason, but if 5 are good then 6 would be better...

Thanks,
Tim

Thanks Tim... I'm embarking on this because I think lots of guys will want to run the kit if I can get it worked out and also because I think it's fun! I figure with all the great computerized tools you can get these days, it seems silly that I couldn't work this out, especially with all of the adaptors already out there.

I can tell you right now the RA61F would be hard to adapt due to the fact that the input shaft is not flush with the face of the bellhousing. I believe that transmission uses an integrated (non-detachable) bellhousing, so you would not be able to put an adaptor in there. The only way to run it would be to move your flywheel and clutch back with a spacer, but I've never been a fan of that conversion method. I could be wrong on this though and it does warrant further looking into... but my goal on this is an inexpensive swap. NV4500s can be had for about $1500 rebuilt... which is a pretty decent price. I don't think you're going to find a used 6 speed Toyota tranny for anywhere near that price.

NV4500 it is!!

Phil - Thanks for the explanation on the 6sp...makes sense. I'm in for the NV4500 route so I'll be watching this thread to buy an adapter when you get them ready. Keep up the good work!!

Thanks! The cool thing is that the NV4500 will also allow us to run all sorts of cool transfer cases and low range boxes... Advance Adapters has tons of options.

Not yet... I've got lots of drawings and models roughed out, but still haven't been able to get my hands on a cheap Dodge NV4500 :/
