Anybody have any Toyota dealer service connections? I am fearing that my 100 may need a master cylinder/booster, etc. Something like $2000 for parts alone and you need special tools, etc. I think I am leaving this one to the dealer...

I am hoping to find a good service writer, mechnanics that maybe can figure this out...hopefully I don't need all $2000 worth...that would be great.

thanks

Try Scott Hugget - direct line is 480-598-2445 - Service Mgr at Power Toyota in Tempe. Tell him you're with CSC, he's offered us a 20/20 discount on parts and service.

Howdy! I think I would take it down to Just Brakes and get their free estimate. See if they come up with the same diagnosis. Sounds a little young for that much greif. John

The only thing that bothers me about the Just Brakes route is that the Land Cruiser seems to have a pretty complex system that I would not like them "troubleshooting" on. Also I can almost guarantee they rarely see these trucks in their stores, so their experience level is probably pretty low.
Had a bad experience years ago with a car I brought in for the "$99" brake job also...

Howdy! Oh, I would not let them tough my car for repairs, I was just thinking about a second opinion. Master cylinder, maybe, but booster? I'd be double checking it before I put the $$$ into that. John

Symptoms?

background: used "turkey baster" to remove old fluid from reservoir. refilled and everything was fine for about one month. (not sure if this is related or not)

symptoms: brakes stop the truck fine, does not pull to any side, press brake down, truck stops, release brake pedal and it comes up about 75% of the way and the truck does not roll...apply some gas, truck rolls (obviously) and brakes release....this happens at nearly every stop.

There is something dragging, I just had brakes bled, went fine, little to no air from any caliper. still the same problem. Mechanic really thinks there is no sticking caliper based on the symptoms. The truck does not have a regular "brake booster", it has a pump under the master cylinder that pumps some type of pressure into this nitrogen(I think) canister that is essentially the brake booster. $1000 for pump, $1000 for booster and canister.

Symptoms?

Hissing when you're on the gas and/or brake.
Needing to push harder on the brakes than you're used to.
Fluid and flaking paint on the inside firewall where the brake actuator goes into the booster. (Takes the longest to occur. You'd likely have it in the shop long before this.)
Same on the outside of the booster where the MC bolts up.
And eventually, no brakes at all, as the MC would have leaked into the booster housing and your shoe and the DS frame.

If Camelback Toyota is convenient... Rob Menasci, service manager, his direct line is 602 200-5584 however at this time (1:00 PM Friday 8-29-08) they have no power to the dealership, something about a storm...

They did a ton of work on my 94 FZJ80 and it turned out fine. Good Luck...

Thanks a lot for the contact information. I will be contacting them shortly, hoping for the best....

Dropped off today at Power Toyota. Scott (service mgr) seems to be a good guy. Starting off with a "TOYOTA" brake flush and bleed. I guess to be bled appropriately there is a scanner that is hooked to the truck....crazy electronics!! Should know more tomorrow....

Dealer called....$2100 repair is needed (dealer price)

A guy on the 100 forum said he changed out the booster assembly himself and it wasn't too hard. I think I will do the same, and save about $600 or so.

:censor::censor::eek: There is no kit or repairing it? I was disappointed that there isn't a kit for the 80 booster and thought that ~$350 is a lot for a new one!:o It would sure suck to have that wonderful piece of technology die, say half way through Lockhart!:frown:

There is some sort of kit offered for seals on the master cylinder, which is part of the big assembly(includes booster, booster motor, and other assorted expensive parts) I will be buying. I will hopefully be able to get it for about $1500, and install myself. This sucks.

If it failed on Lockhart, I'd push it off a ledge and ride with you:D

It'd be a shame to leave anything other than the old camo camper on the that trail...
