How did you determine the KW? If it is a Denso, it's probably a 2.0KW which is available thru Olympic Imported Parts for $225 plus exchange. The 2.2 is probably a Bosch and can be purchased from several online vendors for around $163 plus core exchange. However, the Bosch is 'rebuilt' not remanufactured.
My starter was acting up a little when I bought the crusier 3 years ago with 70K on the clock. Took it apart and did a little cleaning then. Worked fine for the next three years.
The contacts didn't go completely kaput until a few months ago with around 102K on it, at which time I replaced them (of course).
Save your money and rebuild the starter contacts. It's an easy job. Use the money you saved on Cruiser toys. Send it to Christo for a skid plate or something useful. Or buy some spare parts from C-Dan or a CO2 set up from Jody, or all of George's LEDs. Your starter will very likely go well over 300k miles with a few starter contact kits and a plunger or two.
Agree with Beo on this. The work to take the starter off the vehicle is about 80% of the job. Takes 15 minutes to change the contacts and polish the plunger (less time than a round trip to buy a reman at the store) and I paid $22 at my Toyota dealer for these contacts. For those of us who've done this 2 banana job, it seems incredibly wasteful to buy a reman. It will seem the same to you after you replace the contacts.
One tip. Use the serial numbers on the starter to order your contacts, to ensure you'll get the correct ones from the Dealer. Worth making them aware that there are DIFFERENT contacts spec'd and to be sure to use this number in ordering. Or get them from CDan and relax.
Definitely worth just replacing the parts - I went ahead and replaced the plunger as well and was only out $45. Once you wrangle the starter out this job is cake. My origional contacts were GONE (tapered down to nothingness) though - and the rim of the plunger had a nice taper as well (new parts were all flat). Works as good as new now - and I still have the 2.2kW.
