I am just finishing a complete floor rebuild of my FJ45 LWB and before paint I want to install a few items one being a set-up for a cab high canvas canopy cover for the complete bed/box. I have a few ideas for the bows and pockets but a few pictures would be nice to reference to for inspiration. I do have a headache rack so I was planning a two bow set-up with maybe side rails for keeping it all sturdy. I also was thinking of some fold down wooden side seats. I did find six old WW11 deuce and a half 90 deg corner bows that might be the ticket.
Yeah I could not find the corrugated flooring so flat steel was the answer. Will be sealed and covered with XLiner or ?
Thanks in advance

Cover

andybudge, that is a very nice ride you have. One worth keeping. The cover is very great and I will most likely make one of them also, but for right now I am focused on building the full canopy cover with bows. Sorry maybe I was not to clear on my needs. I found (borrowed) a photo on the Internet from not sure were but this is what I am looking to build.
Is your FJ all stock?

Cavas covers

Not a 45 but a similar bed style. Made it so I could mount Thule racks for a RTT or other odds and ends. I have also included a photo without the canvas so you can see the bows. Sorry for the first photos smokiness as we have a rather large fire a few miles from my home.

Canvas

Thanks that looks to be a good working unit. I do like the carry area on top. Good idea. Would you believe I was going to buy a Land Rover just like yours form South Africa last year. Sould of done it.
Thanks for the photo.

RE: Canvas cover

I have made a few alterations to the original for improved 'driveability'; i.e. Disc Brake front end, and extractors. Apart from that, all original. I have all of the original parts and can put it all back to stock no problem.
Contact FJ454ever on this site as he may be able to source the bows from UAE for you? Shipping could be prohibitive but worth it to get an original look?!

Cavas bows

I think I will be alright with the bows I found at a local military store. They had six of the 90 deg bow parts from a WWII deuce truck, $10 not bad. The wood is long gone but I am planning on using that new simulated wood that is used for outside patio decks in-place of the missing wood. It is strong and will hold up to UV better. A good sand blast on the bows and they will be like new as in 1943.
From what information was sent from you folks, I will also build as close to stock as possible the side rails.
I also plan on installing two FJ40 rear fold down seats to the forward area of the bed with seat belts and head pads across and the backside of the headache rack. I will build it so the whole assy can be removed with little effort and strong enough to hold two adults, but mainly for the kids.
As soon as I seam seal all the nooks and crannies I will start on the six bow pockets install. It real not pretty but it has come a long way from what I had to what it is now I just wish I had one of Kevin's floor kit he made.
The last photo is of the bed after a small amount of body filler and glazing was applied to were the new metal was welded in.
After the pockets the floor tie downs will be installed, and a sand blast on the new steel floor for prep of the bed liner spray. Still not sure what brand to use, X Liner or ??
Then to the LWB cover. I plan on using the rubber type material that the US Army use on their trailers and trucks, wont leak and age as canvas will in time.

Cover

Thanks Tim, yes the bed floor is 14 gauge mild steel. Four corner surface mount tie downs. Six inside below rail bow pockets. All sand blasted and POR 15 painted on underside. 12 gauge steel replacement for side metal for rust cut out.
New forward bulkhead from the master Kevin.
Good luck on yours

Covers

Thanks Dan been away for a few, good ref pic. Got a few bids on the cost and around $350-400 is the going price. They call it a wagon cover, I guess that's what it looks like.
See you in the hills.

excellent

blastr9, that is a super set up up have. I do like the tray with fold down sides. Did you make this yourself or was it made by a company along with the cover?
Thanks:cheers::beer:

Very nice setup!

more details

love2fly,

Thanks for the comments.

The HJ47 is from OZ and the dropside tray was fabricated there as well. It was common for HJ's to come from Toyota as cab chassis and then the buyer would put aon a tray. Toyota finallly figured it out and started producing their own drop side trays.

Cheers

blastr9, last year I tried to get a decent aluminum tray ($100) sent over from Australia but the gent sold it just as I was finding transport from his home to the shipper. Looked at one being made in the states and not cheap.
That is one nice set up. I don't plan on selling my old OZ rig so maybe I will take on a tray build later similar to what you have. Very Nice.
