Need some 2004 owners to chime in

Bought my 2004 last year, still has a year left of Toyota platinum warranty but it hasn't needed a thing. Contrary to previous poster's advice, I always recommend buying a car with the lowest miles that still within your budget. Just b/c it has 90k doesn't mean the PO had the service done + the truck has and extra 10k of wear & tear. For me 10k miles is = to about 1 full year of use.

agree! Higher Mileage (or anything above 90K) means you prolly wont have to spend the $$$ for the 90K service, so better value, if you are looking at one with 80K miles vs 90K plus..go with the 90K +

You'd be amazed at the number of 100's for sale well over 100k miles that have not had the 90k service. Most I looked at buying did not have the service performed.

It's one of the reasons that 100 owners decide to sell. Their gas guzzler is facing a big expense and they figure now is the time to get rid of it.

I bought a 2000 with 138K that had not had the Tb/WP service done. It was first on my list and the mechanic said it barely looked worn. still a preventative maintenance item for me. Should be used as leverage to lower the price.

Bought our '04 2 years and 2 weeks ago with 78K. Showroom shiny and paid $24.5 in Santa Barbara with full toyota service records. Sitting at 114K with no problems at all. Iv'e read that the first sign of MFD problem is when you use bluetooth first after startup, and then turn on radio it will power up but no sound. Shut off key and restart - no prob. Turn on radio first after start and then make a call, everything works fine. We used MFD known issue to negotiate price down. Expect it will go out eventually and intend to go with reman unit. Doesnt' change our opinion that it's an amazing truck - sits next to our '88 in the garage.

2004 w/139K mi. and only service (aside from oil change with Mobil1) is recommended 30K, including timing belt. Only issue, and I mean the only expense other than service mentioned above, tires and brakes, was an AHC height sensor this month ($700). I bought it new and can't complain. I wouldn't sell it for $26K. I couldn't replace it

Buddysharp...

Actually that 'audio silence after using bluetooth' problem is not MFD. It is a known software problem with the Mark Levinson amp. It was covered under warranty the first 4years/50K miles: TSB au001-4. Check with your dealer, they may still cover it under good will (mine would not). If not they want ~500 to replace/reprogram the amp so mine still craps out on occasion.

BTW: i also called the Mark Levinson number directly but they would not talk to me since I am not a dealer. Come to think of it, might be worth asking Beno or CDan about it.
