Hello,

I just recently purchased a 2000 LC. It only came with one key. The key I got has the integrated buttons so there is no separate devices for the alarm, etc. What do I need to do to get a second key?

Also, are the doors supposed to lock automatically when I turn on the ignition?

Check on e-bay, they come up once in a while. Dealer price is about $290 for a new key.
make sure the one you buy is the same FCC ID number than yours and once you have it it needs to be programed to work in your truck.

Do I need to get one with the integrated buttons? Does Toyota or anyone else sell the key with a separate transponder for the alarm, etc?

AFAIK there is no separate transponder available for the 100 series. You can get a "valet" key that doesn't have the RF buttons.
Since CruiserDan doesn't hit this board all that often, I'll say this for him:
DO NOT LOSE THAT KEY!!
You must have a Master key (like that one) in orde for the dealer to program new keys, either new masters or valets. If you lose your only master key, you have to buy a new CPU which is something in excess of $1,000.

Oh, and no the 99 and 2000 models do not automatically lock the doors when you shift into drive.

Welcome, and congratulations on the purchase!. You'll be surprised how stout your truck is, comsidering how luxuriously it's equipped.

Although a factory master key without remote buttons does not offically exist for a 100. I have found that the 98 Camry master key, 89785-26020, can be programmed to a 98-00 100 and maybe up to 02. That key is about 40 bucks instead of the 221 bucks the correct master sells for. It is accepted as a master and can be utilized for subsequent master key programming.

Remember, you MUST have an existing master key in order to program more keys.

No keys= new EFI computer.

In the case of the 100's the master keys are the ones with the buttons. The "transponder" portion of the master is in the head of the key and is "passive". It does not require external power to function and the "remote" portion of the key does not need to be operational for the transponder to function.

For example, if you have a broken master where you have only the head and a plain key that is cut to the correct shape, you can hold the head of the broken key along side the plain key and the vehicle will start. After the engine is running it doesn't need the transponder until the engine is shut off and then needs to be re-started.

In short, the broken-off top is the part to keep as it has the requisite transponder required to get the computer into the programming mode.

Thanks everyone for their input and feedback.
