NEED REAL TIME HELP...no sounds going to the rear speakers.

Hey guys, like the title says there's no sound to the rear speakers. I tried to see if the SONY stereo harness was the problem. After electrical tests It was not. I tested all the wires leading to the rear speakers and they all are fine.

When I put the old stereo back in, the rears function normally. I don't know what's going on. I've been at it since last night triple checking all the connections with both wiring diagrams with no such luck. Is there something I'm missing here? The last thing I want to do is hard wire everything. Thats what the aftermarket harness is for.

I'd test the rear output on the sony first to see if anything's coming out of it. And check the fade, or whatever it's called to see if the rear volume is down all the way.

try this a different way .got a old speaker laying around? go get it then try hooking up your sony to it rather then your rear speakers.if it works well then start with the old wires.one more question do you have a aftermarket amp in your rig

I checked the fade and there is still nothing. The rear out put of the sony is fine there is a signal coming from it. Why do the rear speakers work with the old deck installed? That indicates the wiring leading to the rears are still fine.

Try checking for signal right at the old wiring where your new plug plugs in. Maybe you have a ghost?

i would check your wiring harness again.

I guy was wiring a trailer light set up and the typical red/black=hot/ground which was supposed to be correct from the kit were wired backwards so red/black = ground/power.

If the wires are good from front to back it is not the wires and if the speakers DO work when you use the old tape deck.......it is the New CD player.....probably the rear outputs......try switching the FADE all the way to the rear........just to check pluge the "rear" output into the front speakers to see if they work, and plug the rear speakers into the "front" output to see if there is possibly a grounding problem from the output.

If all else fails you can do what i did in my old 4runner. Take the rear speakers and tie them to the front speaker outputs, you won't have any fade options but you will have sound. You will loose minimal power and should be okay.

What vehicle is this for? What harness are you using? You mentioned not wanting to hard wire yet you do not mention a harness purchased for the deck and your car. As well, Toyota's have different wiring paths even for the same year vehicle-I ran into this when I installed a radio in my 92 pu. I had to cut out a wire on the harness I purchased.

Forget about keeping the tests in your head. Write them out i.e. rear speakers tested with a 9 volt battery from harness----check. Front speakers tested----check. Then write out the wire color connections AND their names and match them up in the harness.....check. Radio installation is very simple and you are probably just missing something. Writing it down will catch it and resolve it.

This is for my 87 4Runner. I'm using a Metra wiring harness I bought from a local stereo shop. i'm connecting a Sony cd/mp3 player.
