Hello,
I have the opportunity of buying a 2006 LX470 with 150k miles, one owner all the service records from day one. New tires and front brakes, however it needs a new front windshield. The car is really clean with no damage exterior or interior. I could buy it for $17k is this a good deal? Car is located in Seattle WA.

Thanks

I paid 16.5 for my 2005 that I had no maintenance history on and 134k. Around here anything newer than 2004 and around 125-140 goes for min 20k

if it's an individual you might try this... offer to buy it and pay their deductible for a new windshield, check the threads here on these windshields... it's not a 45 min done in the parking lot at work job....

I agree the windshield is expensive, unfortunately it was traded in at the dealership I work at.

You can probably get some preferred pricing on the windshield then, eh? Toyota/Lexus dealer?

Unfortunately I'm on the german side :( we don't own a Lexus dealer here in WA.

Is the windshield broken? The reason I asked is that if the windshield isnt installed properly, it can cause rust around it and it will be pricey to fix. Do a search for windshield here. Installing the windshield on this vehicle correctly is not easy.

EDIT - this sounds like a great deal.

The windshield has a crack that is about 20 inches long. Luckily it's not in the drivers view.

All maintenance history?? Including timing belt/water pump??? AHC fluid change?? Heater hose Ts changed?? 100k trans fluids changed? Bearings repacked at 90k??

Do your homework. $17k can easily become $20+k.

Get into every nook and cranny that you can and check it out thoroughly. Check for any electrical issues. Check that the car looks symmetrically the same from nuts, bolts, you name it, on both sides, front and back.

Ask the owner if you can hose the vehicle down with water, or take it to a car wash to check for any leaks and electrical once again.

If so, then it's a good start.

As for the windshield go Safelite. Big national name brand. Deep pockets. Lifetime warranty. You can move and take the vehicle with you and you'll be covered. Anything happens to your vehicle due to their work or product, then it's on them. $300.

Good luck.

Thanks for the info, I was glancing over the service records last night. Below is the major stuff done recently.

The bearing were repacked 10/15 when new pads/rotors were installed at 146k
the transfer case needed a repair on 5/15 138k they replaced the transfer shift actuator and did the fluid change
spark plugs, all fluids changed, cooling hoses replaced new rear pads/rotors 4/14 120k
alternator replaced 3/13 101k
water pump timing belt replaced 7/12 91k

These are the major thing that have been done since 2012, I have history since day one. I don't see the hose t's changed, how expensive are those to replace? Also they had the car serviced at the dealer and an independent, the independent wanted to do the 90k service again less than 2 yrs later with only 120k miles? I thought that needed to be done every 90k miles or 7 yrs?

I can't believe you are still thinking about it.

The t's are prob under 30 bucks and 20bucks for some coolant. All you need it sometime to catch/dispose of old coolant, couple of pliers for the clamps, and some common sense. If you're the type that won't get your hands dirty then it may cost you 100-200 bucks at a shop.

The indie shop prob doesn't know the vehicle's maintenance history and the sticker wasn't put on at the first timing belt job maybe?

I agreed to buy it signing docs paying for it on Thursday!

I would find out what the take in was. I know my dealer wouldn't pay that much. Problem is used cars are not replaceable. Meaning, if you buy a new car for $300 over they just order a replacement. On the used cars even if they paid $50 you won't get it for much less then retail unless it has been there a while. They can't just order another at that price. Still if you can get take in you might be able to bargain.
