The '75 needs more pics + it's a SBC conversion rig which to me hinders value. I know the bidding is over $15k, but I never consider that gospel when discussing ebay sales ethics.

The red '82 IMO. What's your budget? That may go for some good coin though. It's all there and if you restored that body and freshened it up a bit you could possibly make money on it if his reserve was reasonable. It's funny to see a carfax for an FJ40.

I don't have a budget, per se, but I'm not going to spend goofy money on one for my intent. The red would be cool because a guy could sort of go whichever direction he wanted with it.

My estimates/guesses are $18k for the '75 and $23k for the '82...really would like some frame and undercarriage shots though. I agree the '82 has potential for much more.

Forgot to add...I don't think they'll meet their reserves :)

I wish I knew, but it can't hurt to send the seller a message to possibly open a discussion in regards to the selling price.

Basically, if you can pick the sellers brain and get a hint as to what he wants for it, you'll know if it's time to play ball. If the seller is reluctant to give the reserve amount out I would say he/she is fishing and wants WAY too much for it.

If I had the coin and was looking for an original true survivor '79-'83 I'd pay $16k-$18k for it. The SBC '75 you posted I wouldn't give $10k for it. One thing you may have on your side is that Christmas is upon us. Even people with money to burn will tend to put the brakes on around this time of year.

Again this is ALL my opinion. Good luck in your quest for the best 4x4 ever produced:cheers:!!

I wouldn't pay more then 10k for the beige one just looking at the condition of the rear tub. It's good but not great for the asking price. The fact that it isn't clean as I expect tells me that the rest of the cruiser will need TLC. Just my opinion It is one of my two favorite colors for a 40. Beige and Green

Just a warning for anyone considering placing a bid on this one:

I was the high bidder last week and reserve met. I went down to Miami to pick it up and walked away from the deal (wouldn't stay running, headlights not working, the list goes on). The seller did some nice things but it's a shadetree mechanic restoration. In my opinion worth about $15k.

What do you see that isn't so good?

I live in PA I have a 76 that is almost done... Started restoring it, almost got it done I will be putting it back together on the next few weeks... Unfortunately due to some financial changes and moving I have to sell it... I don't know if PA is too far for you, but it should be for sale soon. I don't want to put a price out until I have it completely done since I want to look at the finished product and based on that put a price on it. Lots of new parts (as detailed as new door handles, stickers, emblems all those little things that make it cool), original engine, and new paint. Most of the metal is brand new too!! Hopefully you will be able to find something closer since towing it that far can be a pain! But I know that sometimes you have to travel to find what you want!

Just wanted to give you heads up in case you can't find what you want locally!!

Happy hunt, I hope you can find what you are looking for!

I'm basically looking for a '76 or later (preferable), sbc doesn't scare me off, mostly rust free, but can be in need of some work as I'm looking to choose paint and such myself
