Understood and agree. I just want to find an air filter for my vehicles that has been made in Japan. I've cut open so many oil filters and found nothing but junk on the inside. Then I found Japanese made oil filters and am tickled pink. I figure if their oil filters are so far superior, the same quality would pass on to their air filters as well.
As an aside, I have a friend that works in the "X-Ray" dept at Yokohama. He inspects tires with this machine after manufacture. He says Japan will only take the "perfect" tires and the rest are sold in the US. Japan will not accept tires to be sold in their country that we accept and sell all day long.

Then what are you talking about? Just any air filter made in Japan? Does that make them better for some reason?

I want to find an air filter that is made in Japan. Now, on the other hand, I don't know if it is any better or not. It is what I want. What is important to me is that I find one manufactured in Japan.- Thread starter

At my local dealerships, I can't get any of those you mention. All are made in Thailand. I'm on east coast if that matters. I have to buy my oil filters from CD to get the Japan made ones. Cruiser Dan told me that he thought he was the only dealer that was getting the 20004 oil filters and he has to special order from Japan.
That's correct. The -20004 filters are made in Japan and besides CDan I don't know of anyone else that can get them.

I know this may sound crazy, but go to NAPA and ask about the ATM (Altrom) line of parts. It is supposed to be the OE Japanese stuff. This is the brand I buy my bearings in and they are factory Koyo bearings. They offer filters in this line also.
Any dealer here in the US can get them. Most will tell you it isn't available because it has been supersceded. However, Toyota's main warehouse in Ontario, CA stocks them. Your local dealer may not want to sell you less than a case though.
Starting next week, I should have a few cases as well.
I just bought a couple NAPA Gold air filters (PN 2476 IIRC) from Fleetfilter.com for about $10 each. They look basically identical to my Toyota OEM filter, I don't think it's worth the price difference. OK, they don't say Denso on them.

The nice thing about an air filter is you can visually inspect it.

Can you get both cabin air filters that are made in japan for a 2000 and 2001 LX?
You would have to check with Lexus. We are not able to access Lexus specific part numbers....
