I'm obviously new to this forum...and new to the LC/LX arena. I was reading my manual trying to figure out how to change my door locks so they unlock when I put the shifter in Park.

The manuel says:

Put the parking brake on,
Turn the key to the ON position, put it in P (assuming they mean PARK)
Then to N (assuming they mean neutral)
Hold the back of the door lock on the driver's side (assuming they mean the Door lock switch on the driver's side door)...
All within 10 seconds of turning the key to the ON position.

Well, it doesn' t work. Either I'm drunk or the directions are clear on what they want me to do. Has anyone else had any luck on doing this.

Normally I wouldn't care if the doors stayed locked when I turned off the ignition since I have a new baby in the back I have to remember to unlock all the doors before I get out so I can open the back door. I would rather all the doors unlock when I put it in PARK. Thanks for the help! I'm going to drink another beer and anxiously await a reply!

I've heard people with 4runners talk about the programming. They couldn't get it to work at first, but it turned out that their timing was off. You have to do the timing right. And if you want to change a setting once it is reprogrammed, you have to program it back to default first. I would say, give these instructions a few more tries. Just be quick when you are doing it.

I had problems getting my door locks to re-program. I know it's a different model (03 4Runner) but maybe it will help you figure yours out.

This is from another 4R owner:
I wanted to choose option (B):
All the side doors and back door are automatically unlocked when the automatic transmission selector in moved to the "P" position with the ingnition switch in the "ON" position.

The Manual says:

1.) close all the side doors and back door
2.) Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position
3.)within 3 seconds after the switch is turned to the "ON" positon; pucsh and hold the rear of the power door lock switch for 5 seconds with the automatic transmission selector in the "P" position.

I did this several times with no success.

Then I read the manual again...

On the same page in a later paragraph it said;
All the side doors and back door automatically lock and unlock when you release the power door lock switch. This indicates the function is set. If all the side doors and back door do not loack and unlock, the time the switch was held may be too long or too short. Perform the procedure over again.

Anyway, I tried it again (being more careful to hold it down for the prescribed 5 seconds) and it worked.

Okay, first thanks for the quick help...I got it to work. Maybe I didn't take the directions literally like they are written, but you're supposed to let GO of the door lock after 5 seconds. I was just holding the door lock down, waiting for them to lock then unlock, signaling that the mode took.

Anyway, held the door lock for the count of 5, let go, then they locked and unlocked...ahhhh life is back to being easy again. Thanks for the help guys and errr gals.

would this work for an '00

anyone know if this will work for an '00 land cruiser or '00 4 runner? looked thru both manuals and see nothing.... and tried the above instructions and nothing (could just be user error thou).

i assume there are some factory settings that can be changed. my wife's 4 runner beeps when the doors are locked & unlocked, but my cruiser doesnt - its nice to not to have to stare at the lights to see if they flash & the doors lock when walking away from the truck.

anyone.... anyone........... bueller? is there someplace i can dig up this info - did a bunch of searches and came up with this thread only.

Nope, a 2000 doesn't have that level of programability. I don't know about the 4runner.

Coastal, I'd like to say that it will work on a 2000 Land Cruiser. I just programmed my 05 the same way.

I seriously doubt it will work on a 2000 Runner though. You might want to try www.Yotatech.com. Theres a wealth of knowledge there, mainly 4Runners of every Generation. I'll bet you'd find that answer there!

FYI: I checked out the programming details for a Lexus blah, blah, blah 300 (car) and found that the door programming codes are way different than any Yoter I've ever owned. Maybe it's determined by the model and not the entry system. Any thoughts?

Bueller?

Ultra - appretiate the tip, I will check out that web site. There has to be a way to set the alarm to beep or honk when the doors lock on my '00 cruiser.

Bumping this back up to the top. Is it possible to completely disable the automatic lock feature? It drives my dad (his 100) absolutely nuts and me too when I drive it.

If not, I guess we'll settle for the mod above, but I'd really like the truck to just leave the doors unlocked when you put it in gear.

I've got the opposite problem. I'd love it if the doors automatically lock when I put the 100 LC in gear. Perhaps someone disabled this feature on mine. I'd love to reconfigure it!

Anyone have any ideas?

Yes I am posting to an old thread, but it is in the FAQ and I have found/compiled information about programming the door locks not already posted in the FAQ. Hope others find it useful.

------------------------------------

You can select the following modes of the automatic locking and unlocking functions. The initial mode is mode 1.

Mode 1—Automatic locking operation linked to shift lever position
All doors are automatically locked when the shift lever is moved out of “P” position after the ignition switch is turned to the “ON” position and all the doors are closed.

Mode 2—Automatic locking operation linked to vehicle speed
All doors are automatically locked when the vehicle speed goes above about 20 km/h (12 mph).

Mode 3—Automatic unlocking operation linked to the ignition switch All doors are automatically unlocked when the driver’s door is opened within 10 seconds after the ignition switch is turned to the “ACC” or “LOCK” position, or the key is removed.

Mode 4—Automatic unlocking operation linked to shift lever position All doors are automatically unlocked when the selector lever is moved to “P” position after the ignition switch is
turned to “ON” position.

SETTING FUNCTIONS

Do all of this within 10 seconds of inserting the key. Make sure to hold for exactly 5 seconds.

You can set the following functions by yourself. To set the mode 1 (the automatic locking operation linked to shift lever position):
1. Set the parking brake, close all doors and turn the ignition switch to the “ON” position.
2. Shift the selector lever into the “P” position.
3. Press the driver’s side power door lock switch on the front side for about 5 seconds, within 10 seconds after the ignition switch is turned to the “ON” position.
4. The doors will be locked and unlocked to indicate that the function is set. To cancel the function, do the above operation again.

To set the mode 2 (the automatic locking operation linked to vehicle speed):
1. Set the parking brake, close all doors and turn the ignition switch to the “ON” position.
2. Shift the selector lever from the “P” into the “N” position.
3. Press the driver’s side power door lock switch on the front side for about 5 seconds, within 10 seconds after the ignition switch is turned to the “ON” position.
4. The doors will be locked and unlocked to indicate that the function is set. To cancel the function, do the above operation again.

To set the mode 3 (the automatic unlocking operation linked to the ignition switch):
1. Set the parking brake, close all doors and turn the ignition switch to the “ON” position.
2. Shift the selector lever into the “P” into the “N” position.
3. Press the driver’s side power door lock switch on the rear side for about 5 seconds, within 10 seconds after the ignition switch is turned to the “ON” position.
4. The doors will be locked and unlocked to indicate that the function is set. To cancel the function, do the above operation again.

To set the mode 4 (the automatic un-locking operation linked to shift lever position):
1. Set the parking brake, close all doors and turn the ignition switch to the “ON” position.
2. Shift the selector lever into the “P” position.
3. Press the driver’s side power door lock switch on the rear side for about 5 seconds, within 10 seconds after the ignition switch is turned to the “ON” position.
4. The doors will be locked and unlocked to indicate that the function is set. To cancel the function, do the above operation again.

OK well i Tried a few times..Well more then that..Just wont work..I think the codes are for the newer LC's. Which doesnt make sense since I had an 80 series with a factory alarm and it did work. OK so does anyone else have a 98 or 99 and are able to set the doors to unlock automatically?

My 80's alarm FOB had the toyota symbol on it..Well the hat looking logo thing. Is it still a viper?

Perhaps I should have put an extra note in my post about making sure that you hold the switch for EXACTLY 5 seconds (or maybe just take out the part that says about 5 seconds). Anyway, in the first part of the instructions I posted it indicated exactly 5 seconds... and my experience is it has to be exact. I changed mine then went to change it back and couldn't, turns out that exactly is the key word (I did get it to program again with an exact 5 second count).

Good luck. I hope it does work for pre 2003 trucks.

So I think I found the answer to a few questions here. There was one very helpful thread on YotaTech, and some others around... plus my memory was jolted about the 2000 Tacoma I owned.

The alarm system that was very likely installed on the 80 series in question with the Toyota key FOB would have been the VIP RS3000. This had the functionality to lock when the ignition was turned to on and unluck when turned off. This is exactly what my Tacoma did (took some getting used to), and it had the VIP system installed from the factory/dealer (probably RS3000 don't remember for sure). This would have also had the Piezo chirper.

The biggest question I have not been able to find the answer to is what year was the auto lock feature endowed to the Land Cruiser. Was it all 100's? Doesn't sound like it in this thread. I am pretty sure my 2000 LC auto locked. Did 98 & 99 just miss out, or am I rembering wrong with my 2000? Maybe it started with the other updates for 2003. Or maybe when they started adding Nav?

Mode 1—Automatic locking operation linked to shift lever position
All doors are automatically locked when the shift lever is moved out of “P” position after the ignition switch is turned to the “ON” position and all the doors are closed.

Mode 4—Automatic unlocking operation linked to shift lever position All doors are automatically unlocked when the selector lever is moved to “P” position after the ignition switch is
turned to “ON” position.

Hi, sorry to post in this old thread but it seemed the most relevant. I'm a bit of a 4x4 newbie (this is my first post) but have just taken ownership of a 2004 LC100 VX 4.7L, it's a Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) version if that's important.
I'm a little unclear the difference between Mode 1 & Mode 4. I think what I am looking for is both - i.e. I'd like the doors to automatically lock when the shift is taken out of "P" and also to unlock whenever it is put back in "P".
Is this possible?
Thanks if you can help...

Right... I see the confusion. To clarify the features are grouped so you can have up to two of the modes turned on at any point in time - you can choose between having 1 or 2 on, and one of 3 or 4 on. So you can choose one of the locking options and one of the unlocking options, and if I remember correctly you can turn one or both of the the locking/unlocking features off as well.

Hope that helps.
