I have a fairly loud clicking noise (sounds like a baseball card in bicycle spokes) that only can be heard in 2nd or 3rd gear. Cant hear it in neutral, It goes away when the i push the clutch in, it happens with my foot on or off the gas, and it goes away in 4th and 5th gear. I have an h55f and a 2f. I have searched all the articles regarding valve/lifter noise and exhaust leaks. Since it doesnt happen in every gear could these still be the cause? Since i have to have it in gear driving i dont really know how to pinpoint the noise.

Any Ideas?

I would lift the vehicle so that at least the drive wheels were off the ground (with the front hubs unlocked) then get in, start it up, and run through the gears. Have an assistant listen for the origin of the noise from outside of the vehicle and hopefully you can get a better idea of what you're dealing with. Make sure the vehicle is secure and completely off the ground!

Good luck

i jacked the wheels up but i still cant pinpoint the sound. sounds like its coming from the carb/manifold area so im guessing this means exhaust leak- but wouldnt that give me the noise in all gears?
When im in the cab i feel like its the clutch area- but once again- the sound goes away when i get to fourth.
Im confused, as usual.
