I just got a full exo done on my 85 4runner and had to drop the stock rock anchor tank due to the X-brace,so im doing a fuel cell now. I need all the information involved in the install possible and couldn't find anything in FAQ.All i know now is that i plan on doing a 10-15 gal cell with foam to keep it from sloshing mounted behind the rear seats. Ive heard that i need to modify the pick up to a circle track to pick up at the front left and rear right of the tank, or vise-versa, i understand the principle of why, but any info on how would be great, did anyone one not do this and it still work with the cells for off-road application? Also advice on if a should get the cells with the GM sending unit included or not, what all type of lines i need and what fittings to adapt to the stock toyota stuff, suggestions on what cells you have used and pictures of finished projects would be very helpful, thanks from a lost do-it yourselfer.

Welcome to Mud Pardyam :flipoff2: <-- Mud salute. Not too many fuel cells around here, can we see some pics of your ride? Is shortening up the stock tank an option? I'm a bit of a Toyota purist, so I would not go with the GM stuff... I'd try to make the stock stuff work, that way if you have a problem, you can still troubleshoot a stock system, not try to remember what you did.

Thanks for the salute, I will get some pics up in a few days when the exo is done, but i guess shortening up the stock cell would be an option for some one a little more fabrication friendly, and i was also lookin to get rid of the factory tank anyways since it gets hung up occasionally.

Ive found a few things on people moving the stock tank which was cool, but when i get my truck back from the fabricator i wont have the time to fabricate the custom mounts to move it,and i dont want to spend the $ to pay some one to do it when i hopefully can do the cell myself with a little helpful advice from you all

I will be moving my tank behind the rear seat as well......I have 1x1 to build a frame for the mount(also tying it into the frame thru the floor)and a stainless sheet to cover it.If you are not in a hurry I could build a duplicate(I plan on building it in a few weeks)......or since your rig is at a fab shop.....it would probably take them about an hour to build you something

I appreciate that man, i think i have worked out how im gonna mount the tank, i really need more info on the fittings needed to extend the lines to the toyota stuff and what to do as far as a sending unit. But if i need somethin built to mount it ill deffinately let you know because this fabricator has had my truck since june 10th and the exo is only about 3/4 of the way done right now, ill feel lucky when he gets done with just that

I used the Ford F150 fuel pump (22RE) Its tough to have a shopping list of fittings, you just have to wing it. My cell was 8AN fittings which I reduced to 6AN and then used 3/8 braided line from there to the pump.

thanks fox fab that was very helpful. But couple questions for ya, did you modify the sending' unit(or pickup) to pick up at the front left and rear right? and did you use a GM one?where did you get the rollover check valve" or did your cell come with it?and what kind of cell did you use?thanks again for the pics and info

Mine was a buggy so I had no fuel gauge. But you could easily cut a hole in the cell and add it.

All hardware was from Summit Racing and were I believe Erols fittings including the rollover valve. The cell was an RCI 20 gallon I believe.
