Hi friends,

I need to replace several bend horizontal poles in my Foxwing awning. There are two rivets that attach the outer corners of the fabric to each pole. These do not penetrate through to the other side . Can anyone advise me on how to carefully remove these?

Anyone know if the replacement pole (item #C787) comes with replacement rivets? If not, can rivets be sourced elsewhere?

Thanks.

Good question on the rivets.

I need to replace two poles as well and was just going to use 1/8" regular rivets.

My poles bent when the awning took off during deployment, before the guy wires were staked into the ground, the very first time I set it up.

It was a surprisingly light gust of wind.

I will be buying two new poles, and during conversations with Rhino Rack urged them to make their wind advisories in the instructions MUCH more significant. At least the poles aren't very expensive and they do come with the plastic hinge.

What happened to your poles?

Yes, good thing the poles are inexpensive, especially considering the cost to repair the damage to my truck's paint when several well-meaning helpers grabbed the awning and pulled it back down into position, causing the broken poles to carve into the paint job as it all flopped back down. It took me weeks to recover.

Same thing, light breeze, but I was distracted while releasing the last guy line as I was trying to stow the thing away.

I need to replace bent poles and the broken plastic hub.

I just need to figure out how to get these rivets out and if the replacement poles come with rivets.

Take a larger drill bit and drill through the rivet cap until it disconnects from the body of the rivet that goes into the hole. Once that's disconnected you should be able to push the rivet body into the tube (it may rattle around in there) and then redo the rivets. You could also use a dremel or file to grind away the cap.
