My rear AC won't blow cold air. The front works fine. I have no idea how the rear system works. Anybody know what's wrong with it?

Some folks chimed in on a post of mine about a 99 I am looking at, that the rear AC never seems to blow nearly as cold as the front. Just one of those things I suppose.

It has blown nice cold air since 1999. Now it just blows warm air.

The rear A/C operates off the same compressor and system as the front. If there is a leak in the system then you would not be getting cold air in front. Check the roof controls to be sure it didn't get knocked over to warm setting and/or a failed room temp sensor.

Also there is a thermistor in the back...I'll try to post up the FSM pages...

Thanks for the info. I am going to take a look at it tomorrow

My 98 did the same thing , had the dealer check it out and they added freon with dye to the rear system and now it blows like the front cold but I get a random whistle every now and then, weird !!

I don't know about the '99, but the '04 FSM shows one compressor and one refrigerant line serving both front and rear as noted above. The evaporator and thermister and fan are in the right rear quarter panel for the rear system. The interior temperature sensor for the rear is in the ceiling near the center air outlet in the cargo area.

The FSM also lists an electronic control in the rear AC called "air conditioning amplifier". ???
