Again, I think that is a great looking trailer. I have seen Wayne's website before, but it only has a couple of pictures. I like your trailer better than the example on the website. The tailgate and lights in particular.

I assume that your trailer was more pricey than the basic trailer advertised on Wayne's website?

48 inches wide--- is that at the top of the box? I am curious if that is the same size as a regular M416.

And two more questions-- do you have trailer brakes? If so, what kind?

Thanks

Jared

Those trailers are pretty snazzy. I'd forgotten about Smith & Edwards, it's been so long since I left N. Utah.
My drean trailer is SOA and 35's on a Heep J20 P/U bed trailer>

Hey Exiled--Fort Huachuca is in Arizona-- I am in arizona but I have not found any good M416 trailer sources here-- do you know of any?

Jared

Jared, the ones I bought were part of a batch bought by a surplus dealer out of New Mexico, he was delivering a couple of semi-loads of surplus to a guy in South Phoenix and I arranged to have the trailers delivered to me then.

At the time I lived in Glendale and let's just say that my neighbors were not amused when they saw the truck in the apartment complex, and even less amused when I started lining up the trailers in the visitor's parking! Luckily I had already lined up buyers for all for two of them, and by the time my wife came back from a long weekend visiting her folks on the East Coast, I'd sold all but one.

I've since (sadly) moved away from Arizona, but hope to return there someday, I still miss the purple mountains and the desert and the feeling of open space.

Jared:

Wayne built this trailer to my specs. Ir was more $$ (more than 2X) than the standard trailer that he has on his site. The reason is that we added stuff that he had not done before - water tank and plumbing, skidplate, etc., and it is a little bigger that his standard trailer. It is extravgant, but you only live once.

The bed is actually 48.5" wide X 72" long - and the tailgate is 27" deep - so that I can put a full panel of ply or sheetrock inside. The top is about 20" wider - almost exactly the same width as my 60.

I do not have or need trailer brakes, since the trailer only weighs about 800 to 1000 lbs loaded. In CA brakes are required on all trailers with a laden capacity of 1500 lbs. On my recent 2800 mile trip, I had zero problems from lack of trailer brakes.

Wayne's work is very good - nice welds, creative iideas, and prompt execution.

PM with questions.

This sounds perfect. I have often thought that an M416 might actually be on the small small side for a landcruiser wagon. In fact, I thought that since most people agree that you want the same track width as your tow vehicle (e.g., a 59 inch axle for an FJ60) that you should use the extra width to get more width in the box.

I have also heard that you really want a little more length in the tongue-- which you seem to have as well.

This really makes me want a Percival trailer. How far is Dixon California from Phoenix?

The tongue is adjustable for length - it's sort of a reverse 2" receiver with the pintle ring mounted like a standard hitch with 1/2" pin. It can be run close up for the highway, or longer for trails.

I made the drive from Sacramento to Tempe (just past Phoenix) in about 14 hours a few years ago. It's a long day, but it's doable in a day.

Ditto, from Glendale, AZ to Mudrak's in about 15 hours.

Aren't there any local fabricators in Furnace (I mean, Phoenix)? :)

I had the custom axle for my M416 project done in Phoenix for $125, awesome deal.
