Need help diagnosing CDL light on 1995 FJ80 (1 Viewer)

Hey y'all,

My CDL light wasn't operating so I replaced the 2 CDL sensors and the CDL light came on, but no ABS light. The A/T light did show up when shifted into P and in 4Neutral. The next day I added a CDL switch into the dash and a new 4L sensor. Then the CDL light didn't turn on with the switch or changing to 4L - nor the ABS light. The A/T light also did not show up when shifted into P and in 4Neutral. Tried exercising the 4L back and forth, removed and exercised the balls on the new sensors and nothing worked. I drove about 7mi to get gas and the CDL light came on randomly since I guess I was driving with the dash switch depressed. I clicked the switch off and the light disappeared, but couldn't get it back on when clicking the switch again.

Any ideas here? Thanks a bunch

Can you hear the relay click when pushing the ffl button? Can you hear the whirling sound trying to engage?

Can kind of hear relay click when pushing ffl button (60% sure it is clicking bc never heard a relay before and bc I dont know what driving in 4H with the CDL on feels like). But the actual button is illuminated and the CDL dash light intermittently turned on while driving in 4H with the button depressed. The CDL basically only works in 4L with no lights on dash. A/T light worked before in P and 4N but its not showing up anymore.

I can hear the whirling sound of the CDL engaged when I shift it into 4L only, but with no dash lights. I couldn't really tell a difference in drive or hear whirling sound when clicking the switch in 4H but no dash lights with the switch - except intermittently while driving in 4H (no change in drive feeling).

Quick update -

Doubled checked all 3 sensors (2 CDL and 1 4L) and ensured all 3 had washers. Sprayed cleaner on all connections. Still no CDL or ABS or A/T dash light when shifting into 4L or pressing in CDL button i installed. CDL definitely locked when shifting into 4L but no dash lights.

Unplug indicator switch on t case put a jumper wire into the harness and go turn the truck on , push the cdl switch if it lights up bulb wiring good, switch not indicating.

Bulb working - CDL light turned on (but no ABS light) when jumping wire into harness on the CDL sensor toward front of the car. Tried jumping wire into harness on the CDL sensor at the back of the car and no CDL and no ABS light.

I also read on a forum (cant seem to find it right now) that one guy replaced his entire actuator/sensors/etc. and was still having problems - he found out that the washers were too big on the sensors. I have 1 thinner (looks oem) washer on the front sensor, and then 2 of the thicker washers on the back cdl and back L4 sensor. The A/T light wasn't showing up when I installed new L4 sensor, so I put the old L4 sensor back on with a thick washer and now the A/T light is back to showing up.

I think I'm just going to buy OEM sensors with OEM washers and see if that fixes the problem unless anyone has a different experience.

Didn't do anything but drive it today - now it all seems to be working perfectly ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
