is it stock with the turbo? over here they didnt come with turbos before in 98... The head is the only real trouble, if it uses coolant prepare to buy a new head. And get a 3L head, they are much better.

Yes it is factory turbo, just not sure on the engine size seller says 2.4 but it may be 2.8 or 3lt I have to check not sure what engines came in that year of Hilux.

I've read accounts in these forums that the headgasket of this engine is prone to blowing. Wayne (Crushers) of Luxury Imports reports this has been a common problem on the JDM units. For this reason, he thinks they're crap engines.

Need more info.

A 2LT-E WILL crack a head (not just the gasket). A 3L (2.8 Litre) does not have a turbo. A 2LII-T will not have as much of a head cracking issue as the 2LT-E, but still not as strong of a motor as many would like.

I won't repeat the horror stories from Wayne and whatnot. I don't think that the L series engines are all that bad, but I don't think they are all that great, either. I wouldn't hesitate to own one (I DO own one), but I wouldn't pass up a 1KZ-TE powered truck for one, either.

Pretty easy to work on though, the L series.

If it is a 2.4 I would would let that one go by... I have a 2.8 better known as the 3L. And it has been fantastic. A little sluggish but if you can deal with that it will go anywhere. tough as hell, great fuel economy. truck is a steel mountain goat in low gear.
