So my 100 is stuck in my garage with a dead battery. Normally not a huge problem , but I have very little time to spare right now due it being the end of the semester. (for those of you with kids that maybe attending college one day, Georgia Tech is a terrible terrible place)

Anyways I never got one of the battery tray kits and dont have any copper bus bar that I can get quickly. Would it be okay to use the terminal circled in green for the positive since I may not be able to make and extension. Boats use the small terminal, so why not a car? Your thoughts?

THIS IS THE WRONG PICTURE.....my bad...see next post

Not long term. Maybe as a quick solution until you can get a Shaggy tray.

Kirk, why would that be an issue? I was under the impression that the only difference between the two terminals is the mounting type...stud vs post. It allows for flexibility in the battery's application, so I don't see any problems arising as long as the positive cable is appropriately secured to the stud. I'm not sure how he'd accomplish that exactly, but I'm sure some ingenuity could get the job done.

P, throw down for one of Shaggy's kits whenever you get the chance. It's a great investment if you're going to be running a G31 battery long term. The kit and hardware are top notch.

Thanks for the help. I already talked to shaggy about a kit, he doesn't have any left. Hopefully there will be enough demand soon so he can do another run.

pman,
Sent you a pm.

It was either on this battery or a different M battery, (I'm pretty sure that it was a warning tag on the DH Plat. M.) the instructions said NOT to use that terminal for starting, that terminal is for accessories and won't carry as much current. They said to use the post and use an adapter if needed. I will try to find where I read it. Now your going to make me find it so I don't look like an a$$.

I'm looking for it now. Pretty sure the statement was no starter/winching off of the studs.

Yeah, if you find it please post it on here...I'm running my buss bar directly off of the stud because I was having issues getting my cables to stretch forward enough to use the post. That said, my car cranks like a raped ape, and has for about 2 months now...I'm not noticing any power issues running off of the stud.

All the same, if it will damage the battery then I'll have to figure out a way to mod my setup. These effing batteries are expensive!

It was related to the gauge of the stud, similar to wire gauge in that the post can handle more load. I can send you a pic of my terminal setup which fit with the Group 31 DH Plat.

I saw a bunch of different setups in the tray thread...just got lazy and decided to do my own thing I guess. :D

I will look into making some changes if I have to, although it seems to be working fine.

It's also related to constant load usage. EX: Blue Sea fuse blocks use a larger stud size for 200 amps constant than the DH Plat uses for it's stud. 750 amp Blue Sea fuse blocks use an even bigger stud. I would not want to winch off of that stud on the DH Plat. Just me but I go overkill on electrical work. Heck I am running a 2/0 gauge cable to my underhood fuse block and then 2/0 onto the cab to another series of fuse blocks. Of course my house burned to the ground 19 years ago due to an electrical fire so I overkill wire gauges on all electrical work that I do or have done, both AC and DC.

I hear ya KD;

If you were winching, or drawing lots of current for extended periods of time (eg- with huge lights or whatever), then I guess the small terminal would potentially put more resistance in the circuit, and could generate heat...

But for normal-duty use it should not be a problem.

After about 3 hrs of tinkering, struggling, brainstorming, and a trip to auto zone I got the battery in and connected.....so my hundy lives again:D

For others contemplating doing this. Since Gaylon first put one of these Diehard group 31 batteries in back 08, they have changed the case of battery. It WILL NOT go in with the stock battery strap. At this point you MUST HAVE shaggy's kit or one of your own making.

My way of getting it in there is extremely ghetto, but it works. The battery is in securely (at least for DD duty, maybe not wheeling) and the way i connected the terminals works for now. I did not end up using the stud, so no worries there.

Shaggy PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do another run of those battery tray kits sometime soon, I need two, PLEASE?

I may post a pic of how i got it in there later.

I bet she starts a little quicker?

ya she does, 1150CCAs and like 2000 something at 80 degrees.....she starts real quick
