Local Lexus dealers are charging a bloody F ton of cash to cut new keys... Do I have any options that aren’t as expensive?

My wife asked me about adding a remote / push button start as an option instead of keys. What are my options? Any Toyota OEM retrofits available?

Ah cool. I’ll give that a try! Thanks.

Used eBay option with tech stream. Works perfectly. Also there is an option to program keys without tech stream a google search Should find the thread on it.

Same as @subspd above
Used a techstream and a couple of keys from 1010keys on eBay. Flawless.

Compustar remote starts typically go on ~50% off sale around oct/nov/dec at Best Buy with free installation (~$250 for the 3000 ft range 2-way version). Watch Slickdeals. Unfortunately I don't think you can install them yourself unless you buy the installer electronics interface. I reluctantly had Best Buy install them. It's been 2 years and haven't had issues so they didn't screw anything up too badly.

And just as I say that they go on sale.

just to add some perspective to the conversation - I ordered two keys from the ebay 1010keys vendor
I bought and paid for them before Nov 16.

It is January 11th today and I don't have the keys (yet?).
They have been moderately responsive in letting me know that it's a delay from their vendor, but I've gotten "coming soon" for over a month and no keys.

In this wacky pandemic world, it's easy to see how delays can happen. I don't mean to imply that they are a bad vendor. Just letting folks know that as of Jan 2021, they appear to be having some issues fulfilling orders. It may take some time.

I should also say: they *did* send me a key as an apology/thankyou - it's a flip key that is cut, but has no chip/buttons. I could swap my chip/buttons out and put it into that key if I wanted. That's a nice gift, but doesn't really help me with having a spare key - which is my goal.

I get the impression that they're doing the best that they can. If you need a key fast, this may not be the best solution right now.

Update: 13 Jan '21, my 2 keys arrived. The cut works. I haven't been programmed the chips yet, or taught? Or learned? Or whatever it is that allows the GX to start.

It took time, but it appears that the product is as advertised.

Following up -- I used the 4runner key programming directions to make my GX recognize the keys. It worked without issue and took about five minutes to program 2 keys.
