Last night I installed an ARB bull bar onto the Cruiser and overtightened one of the screws on the indicator light housing - breaking the amber lens.

Does anyone know of a source for these? I have already contacted the place where I bought the bull bar, but if I can walk into discount auto and find it on the shelf...

Eric

IIRC, Jim Brantley (www.realcruiser.com) had tracked this down once and found it was a Hella and not easily located at your local discount auto parts store. PM him from his webstie but that's what my wee brain remembers about this...

you can get one at arb --

--- www.arbusa.com -- call them -- nice folk -- tell them you love their stuff and the like and they'll send you one and stickers for free -- :D

Thanks, guys:

I posted just on the outside chance that someone could point out a local source for me. I had a feeling I'd need to go straight to ARB.

Here's something somewhat related -

Anyone replaced the lens/bulb/lamp assembly on the ARB with something more durable?

The turn indicators on my ARB seem awfully flimsy, they put out marginal light, and I think I recall seeing a picture of one on here that was rusted all to pieces. (One of mine's already got a bunch of water in it). I replaced the lenses on my old TJM with a nice thick piece of plexiglass and some thinner, textured plastic to make it look like an OEM lens. Looked far more professional than the original pieces, and held up well in a collision with an Olds.

Too bad TYLER doesn't have an ARB, or he would have already figured out how to rig up some clear lenses and LEDs in there. :D

The ones that came with the bull bar seem to be pretty stout. The case is pretty thick plastic and the weather seal is thick - that actually contributed to my breaking the lens. The seal is so thick that there is considerable space to crank down on the lens before it even contacts the housing - I cranked a little too much!

We'll see how they fare in the long run. If they turn out to be bad it might be a good point to make to ARB.

Oh yeah...

Took Erics_Bruisers advice and called ARB and ordered a couple spares - $3.39 each if you were wondering.

...and I told them to throw in some stickers too!

I opened both my signal lamps today. One had rusty water pour out, and the other had a water line about halfway up the case. I had been extremely careful and diligent when installing the weather seals. I either did it wrong or these things don't seal well.

And, no, I can't pretend that I am hardcore enough to have submerged my truck that deep. Has to just be rain water.

The signal lamp that was full of water was causing a short, so I'm glad I ran across this.

Well, that's not promising news. Maybe I could just install them and not hook them up. At least that way the openings in the bumper would be filled.

I'll probably connect them though - and try my luck.

thanks for posting up.

Has anyone replaced the ARB lights with LEDs? Either LED light assembly used on large trucks or LED replacement bulbs that do not require the rear reflector. If replacing it with a LED bulb, you can drill holes in the lens to allow drainage.

I am in the process of trying to find suitable LEDs currently. This will most likely be my next mod.

try 50w 1156 bulbs, some local auto parts stores have them for a couple bucks, since they, are on/off they wouldn't create enough heat to cause damage to the lens, may want to run through a relay though

I finished my ARB bumper install today by wiring up the lights to the side markers and turn signals, replacing the bulbs with 67s, and promptly breaking the lens on install. I did not feel the pressure I was putting on was too excessive, but it must have been. The light seal didn't seem like it would work too well, either. Has anyone found another light fixture that fits?

BTW, the rest of the bumper is top notch. I'm just not too happy with the lights.

Attention: This is a RUMOR.

However, I've heard that Hella made the turn signal lenses for the 1987-1990 VW Fox.

The part number (reportedly) is P8060-17800 and, you have to admit, it looks pretty close. Someone with access to a VW dealership needs to check this out...

If ARB uses the same lenses in their 80 bars as they do in their Jeep XJ bars, then I can confirm this rumor. There are several people running the clear versions in their XJ bars over on Jeepsunlimited.
