The oversize bearings are 0.25 or 0.5 mm over. So way thicker than the change in gap that you observed from 0.051 to 0.076.
Standard bearings are for you, unless you decide to have the crank ground, but for that it needs to cone out.
Can you feel the wear with a fingernail? I'd be worried then.
I cannot comment on the blue, i have not seen that before. Is the blue where the wear is or does the frank look the same everywhere?
Cheers
J

So I now realize the discoloration on the crank is on all cylinders. It is just worse on the #1 and more noticeable because of the lighting conditions. It is only beside the bearing caps. I also realize the wear on the crank is pretty consists t across all 4 cylinders I have done so far. No I can not even feel it with a fingernail at all.

I also noted the symbol on the new bearings matches the old ones but with a different number? Not sure why?? So it does appear they have been done before as I am using Taiho bearings. But do these bearings look like they have been done in the last 5-10,000km as the PO claims??

Oh and I also now realize it makes sense that the upper bearing on the connecting rod would be more worn. Bear with me guys I am just learning.....

This:
or a bad injector.
crack each injector, one at a time and see if the noise goes away.

BEB's look fine.

Edit: When you crack the bolts, if the copper bushings on the fuel rail look flattened out - order new ones. There supposedly non-reuseable. Might be a good idea to pull the injectors and have a look at the tips too....

i guess is injectors.
My neighbor worked on commercial boats for years and he once talked about fowled injectors knocking. I have also read that a few places on here.
Cheap piece of mind on the bearings.

If you suspect injectors, do you want to run a can of Lubro Moly or Seafoam in the fuel filter and see if it will help? Cost all but ~12$ and takes 20 minutes to do. Doesn't hurt anyway. Might want to give it a try before digging deeper. Eliminate the obvious first.

By the way, mine has a random ticking noise (yours more like clacking). It happened at 116Kms. It is now 205Kms and the same noise there. I am not worried anymore. Changes a bit with oil type.

injectors are apparently a 100,000km service item. I know in a lot of cases the truck will still run fine without having to get them done.

worth a shot on the diesel purge but I would still think that your injector tips are worn and the breaking pressure are out of spec.

Injectors are a possibility as foreal mentioned, however if you want to go down that road research your injector shop very carefully. I had mine done at a local well known injector shop and have not been happy ever since. They ended up seeing my truck back 3 times and " rebuilt " them twice with OEM parts. They claim to be one of only 2 shops in the lower mainland that can overhaul and set our 2 stage injectors properly. This can be a very expensive " trial and error" approach. If I could I'd go back in time and have left them alone...

The link in his sig shows he sold it 5 years ago after doing a full engine rebuild, and hasn't been on mud in over a year.
I'd like to know what he found, but it clearly wasn't good...
