I have been looking for an 80 for a while but haven't been successful in getting my parents to agree to pay for it. I've been reading here on mud for probably 5 months non-stop. I was wanting second set of eyes to just take a look at the ad and let me know if there's anything I've missed. I know it needs the bumpers repainted and it doesn't have lockers, but I don't plan on doing serious wheeling so no big deal. This is exactly what I've been looking for, a relatively low milage, clean Dark Emerald 40th. Just let me know what you guys think.

Here

that's very good mileage for these, and if its been taken care of mechanically like it says it has... might be worth it. my only hesitation is where its spent most of its life (is it in indy? where the roads get salted in winters?) that could make it no go for me. ymmv.

best of luck.

Don't feel bad, My parents never bought me an 80 either.....

BTW. nice looking 80...... Good Luck

Noticed it doesn't have the 40th emblems. Probably means it has had paint work, which probably means it has been in a wreck. Also in the picture of the gauge cluster it looks to be running low oil pressure at idle. Not sure if this is a big deal for these motors or not. Other than that, looks like a clean truck.

Didn't mean to rip it apart but, just trying to give a constructive critisizim. That's my 2 cents.......

Yes we salt the roads here; I live just on the north side of Indy and work in 46222 where the truck is located. I might be able to take a look at it if you can convince the guy to bring it by work on a lunch hr or after or something. I am no expert though I went to Kentucky to get mine and well it is clean and no rust but the VC in the t-case was seized and the front diff snapped a couple of teeth off, which I found out after I got home and drained the diff fluid, gave me a reason to re-gear. But I have learned a lot so I know more now than I did when I bought mine.

He claims "maintenance performed" at dealer I would question what was done. As you know from reading the forums religiously there are a few things to check specifically at this age:

1. birfields
2. axle seals
3. PHH
4. head gasket

WRT condition pics are tough to gauge but looks clean. There are some clues as others have mentioned that would make me look harder at this in person.

Good luck.

Funny, just spoke to a friend and apparently a mutual friend flew up there this morning to buy this... Hope he knows what he is doing.

What are those seat covers it comes with?
Just an extra set of skins? or did the 40ths come with some kind of covers as well?

I'm sure they are some after-market covers. The 40ths came with two-tone leather (same color scheme as the door panels in all tan/oak 97s). No additional seat covers were offered as part of the 40th package.

You can by better-than-OEM leather for your 80-Series (in 40th color scheme or any other color you want) from Metric TLC here on MUD.

Apparently it has sold, good luck to whoever bought it and thanks guys for helping out though!!

Sold to a friend of mine who flew up and is driving back. He said the motor seems fine but not as clean as mine. I will post mine next week after I put on my wheels/tires. The Indy car has quite a bit if surface rust.

Don't lose hope. It took me 8 months to find mine, and even then I had to take a 3 hr flight to pick it up and it took me 8 hours to drive it home. I must have looked at 200 on the web, kicked tires of about 10, and test drove 4. Just remember that patience is a virtue and it normally pays off. Especially if it's for an 80! For me the hunt was just as much fun as finding the perfect one.

Its living in Arkansas now. A little rust underneath but not much. A friend of mine bought it and drove back Friday. All was good @ 80 mph the whole way. May be a good one.

This 80 your looking for...will it be your first vehicle? It would be very cool to have a LC for a first vehicle: Safe, reliable, and you can pack your friends in it.

Beats my first car. I paid $65.00 for a 1973 Chevy Vega with a blown engine. Dad and I dropped in a buick V6, upgraded the suspension, cooling system, etc.

I loved that car, it was a great project for us. Happy fathers day Dad ~
