Not a typo. I found a mint ‘07 with 23,000 miles. I also found a good shrink to help me deal with what I paid for it. The owner bought from a Toyota dealer after 5,000 miles and has put ~ 1000 miles a year on it and kept it in a garage. I don’t plan on waiting long to do the timing belt, but after 10+ years, do I need to be paranoid about driving this truck 500 miles home? Should I have the belt done locally before I try to drive it that far? Any similar situations that have been encountered would be helpful.

I would see if it has had any services done through the years but I bet it has if they kept it so new?
It seems a little odd that you don't talk about any service but are also worried about this to me?

What exactly would be the issue you are worried about?
1000 miles a year would seem OK for keeping it alive depending on whether they drove it the whole time or just all at once i suppose?

I bought an 05 Prius a few years ago with 4k miles on it and had some worries too but mine had less than 300 miles a year on it and they clearly NEVER drove it!

Also a Japanese produced Toyota and no mechanical issues whatsoever including the battery pack which was fine.
All rubber was inspected though for dry rot and a lot of it replaced by a dealer before I took delivery of the car.

So I would say find out the service history that you can and get AAA up to date and have a nice drive!

Oh and you are probably going to need to think of us as a group Shrink too,I am sure everyone is going to need to know how much it cost!

We won't repeat it,I promise.

No concern whatsoever driving the 500 miles home. These engines are easy on timing belts - no rush to change it out. Congrats - post some pics.

I have an 02 that just turned 67k. I drive it about 2000k per year. It is a delight. Keep it out of the salt and in a nice dry garage going forward. You will enjoy it for years. If you drive and use it daily it is just a really nice yet still slowly depreciating used car. Enjoy that 100. They are so much more nimble and tighter than the current 200 series in my opinion. I am sure it is worth the premium you had to pay for it. If kept nice, you should not see much depreciation. If driven as a daily car, then you have a fantastic rig for 1/3 of a new one.

PHOTOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PLEASE

Tires might be 11-12 years old....but probably still fine to get it home.

Factory timing belts are incredibly tough, I'd not hesitate to drive home just because over the 7 year mark.

I saw a 07 w/23K come up a few days ago for $39,800. That I emailed within hours of ad I saw posting in, if not minutes. It lack VIN #. Only a few pictures. Was out of TN. Picture of OAT & HVAC temp read-out on dash looked a bit fishy for this time of year. It was stated as back color, but was actually BGP, which any owner would have known.

I sent email through listing ad, no response. Ad only last hours.

Is this the one you bought?

If legit, you don't need a shrink! You did good.

The only thing that would worry me is brake fluid with a car like that (if never changed). Probably not something that will cause a failure, but might have a soft pedal.

I can't imagine a garaged and babied truck having any issues, and I would not worry about the timing belt...the Heater Ts would be my only real concern. (These are a $10 part x2 that facilitate the travel of engine coolant through the core for the rear heater. They are easy to change and a relatively cheap R&R for a dealership).

Older ones can fail which will result in loss of coolant and engine overheating.

I'd think yours are pristine...but something I'd definitely have replaced as part of my "peace-of-mind" list.

My advice--quit bragging!

I was going to add - how did you beat 2001LC on this one?!

Wow. That is amazing that someone drove it so little. The number that popped in my head for this truck was 45k. Anything less than that is less than market price. Does your 100 have AHC and Nav?

Ha ha my advice would be to take your vehicle to 2001LC to give it a going over and a detail! You will have the closest to new 100 series in the country.

I am sure it's beautiful and without taking any excitement out of it, why would one pay $40,000 for LX 470 when you can buy a similar mileage LX 570 for not a whole lot more?

I understand limited #'s and possible conductibility (?) and all that but in all honesty, if it's going to be a driver, why not get a newer, bigger and more powerful LX 570?

I would like to know what factors helped the OP or "2001LC" or for any one else to pay premium (?) for such a vehicle?

Because they want a 100 not a 200. It is really as simple as that. The 100 and 200 are of the same lineage, but they are different. The joy of driving a vehicle that is nearly new that isn't available new any longer is appealing to some. Also, it is only $40k. While not cheap, it isn't a crazy amount of money to some. It only represents a ~$15k premium to a high mileage 07.

I specifically sought out a 100-series over a 200-series when I was looking. I originally wanted an 80 but didn't work out for me for a couple of reasons so I wanted what felt somewhat "old school" as I love vintage cars, was still very capable, had fewer of the electronics, and I think they stand out on the road since to many people the 200 series looks like a big ass anonymous Toyota SUV like a Sequoia or Highlander.

$37 was my guess on price but seems it was a bit higher, still reasonable in my mind.

And the day it gets hit by someone texting on their phone, the insurance company will pay out $11k for it. :-)

lol Quite possibly if you accept what they offer but there's been evidence here from members that comps do indeed matter if you stick to your guns. Totally valid point tho!

There is no comp in the country that is going to make an insurance company pay out 3.5 book value for a 100 series. I tried to get collector car coverage on my built 100, since it'd cost me about $17-18K to replace (not counting my labor!), and a few of the companies told me to pound dirt, they don't insure SUVs ... and the others have such restrictive use policies that they are worthless.
