just got a set of dana 60's out of a '69 powerwagon. i wanna try to shoe-horn them under my bj42.
my intention is soa, maybe shackle reversal...
wondering about a way to achieve good wheel-base. any suggestions??
thanks,
eric

so coarse splined (like 16 IIRC) rear and closed knuckle front..

You really are not improving the strength of your axles at all. In fact, those axles are weaker than your stock ones...

is this true? i thought 60's were the be all end all... i guess they are pretty old, and there have no doubt been maybe design improvements.
so are they worth keeping at all? or should i flog them?

If you can find the right person (someone that owns one of those old power wagons) then they are worth something. Other than that, they are not widely desired..

Early D60's are not as strong as the later units..

Sorry amigo.

that and trying to find parts if and when ya break em.

so in anybodys opinion NO Dana60's shouls be used or just not the ealrier ones?
im confused. someone else just recommended one to me for my 40

78 and later D60's are much stronger than their previous counterparts.

Rear D60's are essentially 30 spline. (there are supposed to be D60 HD's that are 35 spline but I have never actually seen one tho I have seen a D60HD)

Front D60's vary from kingpin to ball joint assy's with a variety of widths. Some are more desireable than others.

Figure out what you want. And go from there.

here is a good primer on front axles.
