I would also keep an eye out for older RX400 hybrid or newer RX450 hybrid, all similar to the Highlander hybrid

Sequoia ftw in interior cargo space/car seats I think it has more interior room overall than a Landcruiser and a better third row than anything that’s been mentioned. I had a 2004 I bought new on the lot. 4wd, no torsion bar front suspension business. You could make it into a pretty mean looking mall cruiserI haven't seen much mention of the 3rd row room. Are your 3 kids in carseats? Boosters? 3rd row room in the highlander is terrible and there is only one tether anchor in the third row, and it's in the middle position of the 3rd row, that really limits car seat/booster configuration.
Not saying the room in the 3rd row of the LC is great either, but we tried doing 3 car seats in a highlander and it sucked. We were immediately maxed out on space. We ended up getting a 2007 Sequoia Limited for 8k. It's bigger overall than a LC and we really like it for accomodating 3 car seats.

Still like my 2003 rusty cruiser more![]()
A sienna is a Highlander with more interior space and better third row. Only smart ppl buy minivans
This is the truth. Either go for a wagon or go for a minivan, all these SUVs that aren't for serious offroad are a bit silly.A sienna is a Highlander with more interior space and better third row. Only smart ppl buy minivans![]()
Yep, that's why we have a Highlander.I agree, but some wives will trade function for fashion and take a crossover suv all day. Anything with a slanted Rear door roofline is out in my book. You can talk what’s practical all day long but for me the decision typically comes down to what wifey wants. And thus, we have an rx350 for her.
Get a V6 Highlander. Hybrid batteries may crater at 100k and then you are screwed.
or gasp.......
a Sienna.
What are your experiences with hybrid batteries? I know Toyota covers them for 100k miles. The new ones for 150k mi. Are they known to lose charge after that? I see a lot of Highlander hybrids for sale with close to 200k miles. You would think after all these years of making hybrids they are reliable? Also, I see a lot of aftermarket vendors that will swap car batteries that are losing charge for like 800 bucks. I guess at that point, the choice would boil down to aftermarket vs OEM batteries.
I test drove a Highlander hybrid just the other day and that thing is fast -- much more power than the gas one. That's the only thing that makes it worth driving imho. If I'm not going to get the H. hybrid because the battery is unreliable then all bets are off and I'm back to square one.
Option #3 -- 08-10 Land Cruiser with 100k-150k miles is starting to look better and better to me. I can get one for 22-24k with thorough maintenance records, one owner, and zero accidents. Wonder how much it would take to baseline that baby.
