Hey Guys,

My transmission started to slip today. So I'm wondering if anybody has a decent tranny for a 3.0 that you would like to get rid of? It's for a 88 truck 3.0, auto. Any help or suggestions would be great.

Thanks,
Steve

From experience(I can hear Jim and Nick laughing already)....Temporary fix(I got an extra 20K miles out of it) Drain ATF, refill with WD40. This is what the used car lot did where my dad worked as a teenager.

Yeah, that's not a fix I would think of. Tranny slippage is caused by internal hydraulic leakage and/or glazed clutches. WD40 would not be helpful for either condition.

Now brake fluid OTOH, that will swell/soften old hard seals and increase the friction at the clutch faces. but you didn't hear it from me.

My tranny quit slipping for about 20K miles with wd40 :)

Had one but gave it away.. Damn....Have you tried Marlin?

I hope this isn't my old 88?
I think it went off to CO in about 94 or so with a new/used tranny. I loved that truck

So which quick fix can I use. I need something because the wife is not finding the tranny problem funny anymore. I called around for estimates yesterday and all I heard was $1500-$2300 to get it rebuilt or buy a used one. Toyota said $2400 for a new one. I didn't think they made them anymore? Anyhow thanks for the help.

Steve
